Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is steeped in history with many beautiful towns and cities to visit. Nearby Florence (about an hours drive or by rail from nearby Castelfiorentino or Certaldo) is home to the world famous Uffizi museum, The Duomo and Ponte Vecchio bridge. This former capital of Italy is packed with historic buildings and beautiful statues can be found in many of the open squares. Historic Siena is home to the Palio horse race every July and is less than an hours drive. You can stroll through the winding cobbled streets taking in the fabulous atmosphere this historic town has to offer. There are many designer shops, restaurants and public gardens to enjoy. The area is famous for its wines - amongst the best are Chianti and the DOCG Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine. The Tuscan countryside is beautiful and the changing light has inspired painters over the ages. The climate is warm throughout the spring and autumn - summers are hotter but are tempered by cooling light breezes.

San Gimignano

San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is just 20 minutes away. Its famous stone towers overlook the cobbled streets and paths that wind through the centre of this charming Tuscan town. There is ample parking and exploring the squares and gardens within the city walls reveals small shops selling local specialities and plentiful excellent restaurants. There are regular festivals, further information can be found on the San Gimignano official website. The medieval town of Volterra is equally close by. Sitting high on a hill overlooking Podere Torricchi the town has charming squares and winding streets. The award winning Castelfalfi golf resort is 20-30 mins drive, the beaches of Cecina and Vada are one hour away.

“Perfection in rural Tuscany”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2016

From the outset we knew that this place would be special. From reviewing the property on TripAdvisor, looking at the pictures, reading other travellers reviews right through to the wonderful prompt and attentive service received from Steve at the point of booking. Nothing was too much trouble, and the level of detail and information provided was absolutely second to none. Our hopes were therefore high when we finally arrived for our week long stay, and being honest these hopes were not just matched but they were surpassed. I'l Granario is simply stunning, located in an area that is also simply stunning. The house itself is set roughly 2 miles off the main road so is very private and secluded, sharing a pool with a handful of other holiday properties as part of the converted farm 'Podere Torrichi'. The finish of the house is excellent, the beds are comfy and it's very well equipped. The pool area is beautiful with uninterrupted views over the Tuscan countryside. Nearby are the equally beautiful and impressive towns of San Gimignano and Volterra - we spent several happy days exploring these and finding great places to eat. We also visited the town hall in Volterra where Steve got married earlier this year - what a setting for such a big day. We can't thank Steve enough for sharing his wonderful holiday home with us and for making the whole experience, right from the outset, something special.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your lovely review of your stay at I'l Granario. I am so pleased to hear that our lovely home surpassed your expectations and that you were happy with the support that I provided. It's heartwarming to know that this turned out to be a special holiday for you - I hope that you will have many fond memories of your stay. You will be most welcome at I'l Granario if you decide to return to this beautiful part of Tuscany in the future. Warm Wishes Steve

“Perfect location to enjoy the best of Tuscany”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2016

My friend and I booked the property hoping that it would allow us to be suitably placed to explore [and get the most out of] Tuscany and we were not disappointed! The property is ideally located between Pisa, Florence and Siena and a short [15 minute or so] journey to San Gimingnano, which is a beautiful old town with plenty of Tuscan charm. From the moment we booked, Steve [the owner] provided us with hints and tips as to how to make the most of our stay [with suggestions as to day trips, length of duration, etc.]. The customer service was excellent; thank you, Steve! The property itself is beautiful; the kitchen was well equipped with all of the amenities you'd hope [such as dishwasher and more than a two ring hob! For those of you, like me who like to do the occasional meal 'at home' admiring the views, there are four good rings on the hob]. The large fridge/freezer was also useful in storing the fresh fish which we bought at the fish monger in Volterre. The downstairs bed was extremely comfortable [and I'm assured that is also the case for the upstairs, too]. I'd recommend this property on three grounds; firstly the customer service, secondly the location and amenities and thirdly the fact that you just don't want to leave.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review of your stay at I'l Granario. I am so pleased to hear that you found the house comfortable and equipped to a standard that allowed you the flexibility to cook at home. We try to ensure that our home is equipped to the same standard as you are used to so you have no compromises to make. Thank you also for the compliments about the service I provided. My top priority is that your holiday is 'worry free' so I try to ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible. I hope that you will return to I'l Granario at some time in the future. Best Wishes Steve

“So good we came back in 2013 - Terrific Villa, Pool, Views & Airconditioning”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2013

A lovely traditional style Villa, extremely well appointed with the luxury of Airconditioned bedrooms - which meant a comfortable nights sleep for all. With two young children ( 7 & 9 yrs) the excellently maintained pool was terrific and the uninterrupted views of Volterra and the rolling Tuscan countryside was simply stunning. We enjoyed our first visit to Il Granario Villa in Aug 2012 and enjoyed ourselves so much we returned in 2013. The owner's administrative skills are unsurpassed, nothing is too much trouble and he's straight on the case should you need anything. Having stayed in more lower lying areas of Tuscany we found the elevated position of the Villa meant a significantly lower level of insects and mosquito free. It's hot in the height of summer and the recent addition of fixed wall mounted Airconditioning in the bedrooms can't be understated. As well as the modern convenience of wifi and satellite tv- it was a home from home. Unmade roads to Tuscan Villa's are the norm, so I'd leave the low slung sports car at the hire car centre. Something sensible is all you need. If you arrive in Pisa via plane or train, the hire car centre at the airport is so easy to find and takes you directly out onto the main route to the Villa. The owner's directions are so good you wont need a sat nav to find the Villa and there's a gigantic supermarket 5 minutes from the airport where we stocked-up on all that wonderful Tuscan food & wine. Simply a fantastic place to stay, excellent accommodation with plenty of privacy within the landscaped gardens to enjoy a bottle of wine and watch the sunsets. The children loved the pool and found several playmates amongst the other guests to splash the day away. It grieves me to recommend l'l Granario as when you find a beautiful 'Little Gem' you want to selfishly keep-it to yourself! But that would be hugely unfair to the Owner (Steve) who goes that extra mile to ensure you have a hassle free and relaxing visit. We loved it and have reserved for 2014 already!

Thank you for your review, it was nice to welcome you back this year and I'm glad to found the new air conditioning made your evenings much more comfortable. I try to make the villa as 'guest friendly' as possible so your feedback helps me to know that those investments are appreciated. Thank you also for your kind comments about my administrative arrangements and ongoing support. It's important for me that you have confidence in the person you are dealing with and your holiday is relaxing from the time you book to the time you leave. I look forward to welcoming you and your family back next summer. Warm Regards Steve

“Great experience!”

Steve was very prompt and thorough in answering our questions and providing information. I would recommend staying here to anyone who wants a great place to stay in the countryside.

Thank you for your lovely review of I'l Granario. I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the incredible views. Its always a pleasure to help my guests make plans for their stay and to answer questions that help you make the best of your stay. “Home from home in beautiful countryside”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2012

Lovely property, well set up for all weather, great facilities. Steve gave us excellent directions to get there. He was very helpful with booking and throughout. Location is great, it is lovely and peaceful. The private road in is metal and a bit bumpy but we found it fine and added to the character of the location. Lots of lovely smaller villages nearby and also in between Volterra and San Gimignano which are both gorgeous places. Nothing is really that far from the property in the car. If you want a lovely location, high quality property with excellent views, then highly recommend Il Granario. Thanks Steve!

Thank for your kind review. I am pleased that you enjoyed the house and the lovely location. Thank you also for your recommendation, I hope to be able to welcome you back to I'l Granario again in the future. Warm Regards Steve

“Beautiful property in a stunning location”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

We stayed at Il Granario during the first two weeks of July, having also stayed there for two weeks in September 2011. The location is perfect, surrounded by beautiful rolling Tuscan countryside, with the sound of the warm breeze being the loudest noise you will hear much of the time. The house itself is lovely with a well equipped kitchen and the added bonus of both Sky television and an Internet connection. The outside space is a good size, with the communal pool just a few steps away, and the perfect position for viewing the amazing sunsets which occur almost every evening. Both San Gimignano and Volterra are beautiful places to visit, you can sit and people watch or just wander the medieval streets. Driving to Certaldo to catch the train ro Florence and Sienna is easy and much simpler than driving. On both occasions we have stayed at Il Granario I have gone out horse riding at a local stables, Agriturismo Maneggio, which is a beautiful and inexpensive way to see the Tuscan countryside (I have left the details at Il Granario for future guests reference). The service we received from Steve was excellent on both occasions we have stayed at Il Granario, with great ideas for excursions included in the folder at the house. Overall my wife and I would highly recommend Il Granario, the perfect place for rest and relaxation in a stunning location.

Thank you for your review. It was great to welcome you back for a second stay. Thanks also for the information about the horseriding, it's good to be able to share your experiences with my future guests. You will always be most welcome back to I'l Granario, thank you for being such great guests and for sharing your experience with others.

“Wonderful accommodations in the spectacular Tuscan countryside.”

Reviewed 21 Jul 2012

Had a wonderful time at I'l Granario! The owner provided extremely accurate driving directions from Pisa Airport, as well as many helpful hints about things to do in the area. He was most responsive with the many questions I had prior to departure. The accommodations were practically new and the maid service was efficient and on time. The surrounding countryside was stunningly beautiful and quiet.

Thank you for your review, I think it's important to ensure my guests receive all the information they require to make their holiday as trouble free as possible so I'm pleased to hear that you found the information I sent helpful. I hope to welcome you back to I'l Granario again some time in the future. Best wishes Steve

“A Place To Call Home”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2011

Our experience from the beginning to the end was seamless. From searching the internet, finding the site, looking at the description of the property, viewed the pictures and read all of the reviews. The availability calendar was current. We sent our first email and Steve responded within hours. Steve was a pleasure to work with. He held the reservation, took our deposit over Paypal, followed up with final paymjent. It was so easy. We made our reservations late within a few weeks of our arrival. Steve sent us pages of directions, things to do, places to go, shop, eat. Then we arrived at The Il Granario Villa itself!!! Where do I begin. It was beautiful!! The details from furnishings, decorations, fully equiped kitchen, everything was as expected and more. Updated, very clean. Il Granario was the Tuscan experience with all the ammenties of home. My husband and I went in late September, early October. It was a quiet time, the pool was closed, that was ok with us. We enjoyed every moment, from early morning coffee, going to the co-op for groceries, cooking outstanding meals, relaxing, reading, day trips to a few tourist locations, but mostly places we picked out on the map. The location, sun, peace, evening sunsets, the views were stunning. I would highly recommend Il Granario to a family, honeymoon couple, friends on travel together. Your experience will always be a wonderful memory.

Thank you for your review and for choosing my home for your stay in Tuscany. I have tried to make the house feel like home for my guests so I am pleased to hear it exceeded your expectations. I also always try and ensure that my guests receive all the information they require to help them make their booking experience easy and their stay enjoyable and truly memorable. I am very happy to hear that you had a wonderful stay and that you would highly recommend I'l Granario to other visitors to Tuscany.

“A perfect location and property mixing sight-seeing and relaxation”

Reviewed 11 Nov 2011

The property is located in beautiful rural Tuscany with amazing views of the countryside! The house itself is very well furnished; it felt like we were staying in someone's home rather than a rented house. The beds were really comfortable and there was everything in the house you would want; Sandra and I were particularly impressed at having the dishwasher! The pool was lovely; with amazing views [Volterra was a silhouette on the skyline] and the owner [Steve] managed to answer all of our questions and even provided us with suggestions as places to visit [and even how to get there]. We had a wonderful time; we are planning our next trip back to 'Il Granario' and would certainly recommend it to anyone planning a holiday in this part of Tuscany as it's an ideal location for all of the most famous sites of interest [such as Pisa, Siena, Florence, San Gimignano]. Thoroughly loved it!
