Laguna, La, Tenerife
La Vega de La Laguna is a broad valley with orchards and very nice houses, gardens, parks, and roads, all of it mainly surrounded by Monte de Las Mercedes. Neighbours are polite, friendly and peaceful; greet is required thoug you don't know them. Evening walks are safe, and specially beautiful in the light of the moon. Shops, pharmacy, cafes, supermarkets, gas station... are within 500 m, as so as great restaurants and typical "casas de comida" at all prices ranges.
It's usual to find people from many different countries wearing their walking clothes and backpacks, waiting for the bus to Monte de Las Mercedes; or having a "cortado" (a little strong coffee with full or condensed -or both- milk) in one of the cafes near the bus-stop before beginning their trips.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is at a 20 min. walk across a nice and lovely countryside. It was the first main city of the Archipelago, once the Spanish conquest was finished. UNESCO has recognized it as world heritage because it is the first colonial city with no walls. There are many interesting buildings from different centuries to see and visit as so as museums and free cultural and musical activities of high quality and carried out inside very fine places like "Instituto de Canarias" or "Convento de Santo Domingo". The three main streets are plenty of shops, cafes, terraces, restaurants and "tascas", and young people from the University make nights funny.

"Brilliant base in the North of the island."
Very well equipped studio with a welcome log burning stove as it was quite cold in the evenings in January. Friendly owners-Angeles speaks good English. Easy twenty five minutes ,flat, walk into the Old Town centre of La Laguna-which is brilliant for tapas bars etc. We walked several times down the road with no pavement before we discovered the easier way via a side lane; directions to this would have been helpful. We had a wonderful meal one evening at the local Bar Restaurant- Casa Pedro Los Tonales. Lovely people and a very warm welcome, some of the best food we've ever eaten and very reasonable price. We had difficulty finding the house once in the village. It's on the first road on the left after passing the café/cake shop on the left on the main road. About halfway down on the left is the bungalow. The confusion in directions is because the house is called Mercedes and so is the place.
