Its main lakes, such as Bracciano and Bolsena offer beautiful beaches and water sports within a beautiful landscape and a more relaxing atmosphere.

The village of Bracciano all around the castle is full of life, restaurants, museum, and during the monts of July and August to the delight of residents and the many tourists from all over the world, the city of Bracciano is enriched by a mixed number of cultural events, as classic concerts, rock music and theatral performances, taking place six days per week. The house is located in the luxury residential area of San Celso just 2 Km away from the Castle.HISTORY OF THE CASTLE - The first part of the Castle is dating back to the 12th century, when it belonged to the prefect of Vico. After the year 1370 it was acquired by the city of Rome, and in the year 1419 the Pope donated it to the noble and powerful Orsini family, who started the enlargement and the trapezoidal shaping and 6 towers of the castle. Today it represents one of the last great castle for archers in Europe.Famous personalities, such as Pope Sisto V in 1478, Francesco della Rovere, and during Christmas 1494, king Charles VII of France were hosted in the Castle. Following clashes with the Church and financial difficulties, the Orsini family lost the Castle. After some time and with diplomacy they gained back the favor of the Pope and regained the property of the Castle. Paolo Giordano was nominated Duke of Bracciano, and his successor Paolo Giordano II, successor of the Duke, started the development of Bracciano by building an aqueduct to convey water from Manziana hills.Losing power, the Orsini Family made an auction to sell the Castle in the year 1695, which was bought by the Odescalchi family, who till today own this magnificent property. Odescalchi Castle is generally renting some of the large saloons in order to arrange conventions and cerimonies: the saloon of the well, 216 sq.m and 240 seats; I granai, 312 sq.m and 500 seats; one of the tower and the large frontal garden. But for the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the Castle has been entirely rented. It is open for visitors all days except on Mondays.

“Bellissimo Bracciano!”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2015

Spent a week here in late September, it was still warm and sunny. The accommodation was ideal for my wife and i, well equipped and clean, including good wifi signal/tv package, and a lovely swimming pool with a great view of the lake. The owners of the villa, Ingrid & Gioacchino were very welcoming and helpful. We wanted to stay somewhere outside the city but close enough for a day trip or two. This area is ideal as there is a direct rail route into Rome (approx 50-70 mins), a 'brig' ticket can be purchased at the station for 8 euros and can be used all day within Rome's public transport system. However, it is advisable to hire a car if you intend to explore the local area…. Bracciano has that typical look of a quaint italian town, plenty of places to eat and drink, complete with ancient castle. The area of lake Bracciano also hosts the postcard-esque village of Anguillara (well worth a visit) and Trevignano Romano, which has plenty of lakeside eateries and small market stalls. Amongst the other local towns is Cerveteri, which will interest those who like visiting historical sites, they have an extensive Etruscan Necropolis. Highly recommended.

Thank you very much Johnny for taking the time to review our property. We are grateful to receive such a fine review, as it is indeed a great reward for the attention we pay to all our precious guests and a big encouragment to improve and maintain the house in top conditions. Take the opportunity to inform you that after your departure the weather changed to the worst with a decrease of temperature and rain.

“Superb vacation home on a fantastic location with a perfect hosting couple.”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2013

Our first advisory is to book 3 weeks instead of one as this is not enough to explore the surrounding villages around the lake and numerous historical locations within an hour drive. The fantastic city of Rome itself, closeby with an easy train connection from bracciano, would already require a one week visit. The spacious, well equipped appartment is beautiful and relaxing at the private swimming pool in the lovely garden with a beautiful view of the lake and distant hills makes You not want to get up and move at all anymore. Host and hostess are ever so friendly with lots of great tips of places to visit, travels to undertake and excellent restaurants in various price categories to try out. For us the best vacation residence we've had for decades and ofcourse Italy for vacation is THE PLACE TO BE.

“the best family holiday apartmen we ever had.”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2013

And, as we have been travelling on this kind of formulas for the past 10 years, no need to say : the place is great. If you want to visit Roma, but in the same time you dont want to sleep in the city, you will be delighted to enjoy the peacefullness, the view, the garden and the lake nearby. I confirm all what is said in the other reviews: all shops and facilities easy to reach. Also the pitoresque medieval towns by the lake will offer you a relaxing time, if ever you get tired of the big city of Roma. Fully equiped, greatly kept in good conditions, spotless state when you arrive. Hosts are the most friendly and kind. As for the apartement: just the right size for a couple or family with two kids. No neighbours to the sides, no "vis-à-vis". Get your holidays there, and you will realy know what "Dolce Vita" means.

“Excellent location - well equipped appartment - within easy reach of Rome”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2012

My husband and I and our teenage daughter all enjoyed our week's stay after spending several days in Rome. It was the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. We could use the pool whenever we wanted. The owners of this property had prepared the appartment very well to make us feel very welcome, and were most kind and helpful. We had not taken a car with us and so were pleased that there was a small supermarket nearby (5 minutes easy walk) for all self catering supplies. There is a bus service, but at the time of our stay the timetable had just been changed so the service was a bit unpredictable. We walked to Bracciano (about 25 minutes) and were able to get a bus to the Lake for a very enjoyable trip around, stopping off at other villages. Trains to Rome are very frequent and fares are very cheap.

“Our perfect apartment-holiday ever”

The apartment is beatutiful situated with view on the lake. you have everyhting what you need: nice kitchen, bedroom, bathroom. very nice is also the free WIFI and of course TV. outside you got a beautiful property with a super pool. we had some realy relaxing days lieing there. the owners are also very nice people, we feel just like home! the town is only 5 minutes away by car. for us it was the perfect holidays and we want to come back again (we already have been at that place last year 2011).
