Wheelwright Cottage is a pretty, warm, snug, well equipped, self contained cottage attached to 1 West Dean, adjacent to the village green in the centre of the small village of West Dean on the Hampshire/ Wiltshire border.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Bentley Wood borders the village. It has many beautiful woodland walks and is an outstanding habitat for butterflies including the Purple Emperor.

The ancient city of Salisbury is one stop away on the train, and eight miles by road. It's Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in England, made famous by the artist John Constable, and holds one of the original copies of the Magna Carta, the great Charter of Liberties granted by King John in 1215. The cathedral is a ten minute walk from the station (the train from Dean takes 12 minutes). Stonehenge can be accessed by a bus service from Salisbury Station.

In the opposite direction, the National Trust's Mottisfont Abbey and grounds with it's famous rose garden is a 5 minute train journey (Dunbridge Station + 15 minute walk to Mottisfont) or a 10 minute drive. A 15-20 minute drive gets you into the tranquil New Forest National Park or, the non-tranquil Paultons Amusement Park with Peppa Pig World. Deep into the National Park is Beaulieu Motor Museum and Palace House

Winchester Cathedral is a 30 minute drive away and, on the way, you can stop off at Hillier's Arboretum.

The village has its own railway station 2 minutes walk from the cottage: Salisbury, the next station going west, is the gateway station for the West Country; Mottisfont & Dunbridge is the next station going east. The heritage cities of Bath and Winchester can be reached by train in 1hr 30min and 50min respectively

Hampworth golf club is 6 miles away.

CLEANING:

Cleaning is always very important to us but be assured that we now spend extra time deep-cleaning between bookings. All work-surfaces, door handles, light switches etc are cleaned and sanitised for your protection.

Why can't I call Patricia (the owner) before booking?

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Patricia (the owner) a message.

If Patricia (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
