The Bearn region
The climate is as I would wish the English climate: a Spring that actually happens, and a Summer of sustained warmth, extending well into October. It can get very hot, but this is alleviated by the occassional shower and odd storm. The town became very wealthy in the middle ages when locals discovered a source of naturally occurring salty water. Salt was a much-prized commodity. Production continues (it is used for Jambon de Bayonne, for example), with the salt company still owned by local families.
The houses that they constructed in the boom years of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries make up the medieval heart of this fascinating town. Further wealth came in the nineteenth century, when Salies became a health Spa. It still is: enjoy a truly luxurious experience in the heated salty water Spa pool.
Salies is a provincial market town (pop. about 5000). The Town Hall organises a series of events and concerts throughout the Summer, most of which are free. Salies sits amongst a series of well preserved medieaval towns (such as Navarrenx, Sauveterre and Labastide-Clairence).
Towns across the region, and into Spain, all have their fetes, so hardly a day goes by without something going on. Within Salies there is an open-air public pool; archery; tennis, squash and golf.

"A lovely, quiet, well-equipped apartment."
We spent 9 days in this very pleasant, spacious, well-equipped apartment. It has all we needed for our holiday. Simon gave us some helpful information about places to visit, eat etc. It is very close to the town, but a car is really needed to explore the varied scenery from coast to mountains. We are happy to recommend this apartment.

"well situated comfortable accomodation in an interesting town"
We have just spent a most enjoyable two weeks holiday staying in this apartment in salies de bearn. We were greeted on arrival by Simon the owner who showed us around and answered any questions we might have. A short walk will take you into the town centre where there is plenty to see and to do Overall this is a very comfortable, well equipped apartment in a quiet location with car parking, garden and easy access to the town It may not be suitable for anyone with a mobility problem as access to the apartment is via a flight of steps. We would certainly consider staying here again

"Excellent well equipped apartment in a beautiful location"
We had a fantastic time staying in the apartment for one week in August 2012 and it surpassed all our expectations. The property was clean and had all that we needed. The outdoor space was great for the kids to run around in and it was good having a BBQ area too. Simon and the family were very accommodating and were on hand to give tips on the best places to visit. The town itself is beautiful and very peaceful. It has some good restaurants and a few cafes to enjoy a latte during the day. We used the public outside pool lots, as well as the thermal spa. We would highly recommend a day trip to Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and San Sebastian. Thank you Simon for making our stay so enjoyable.
