Location description from owner

The Algarve region

Salema is an excellent base from which to explore the Western Algarve, one of the last remaining unspoilt regions of southern Europe.

This area of Portugal boasts unrivalled opportunities for holidays in the spring, summer, autumn and winter, which can be as active or relaxing as you wish. Imagine sun filled days and balmy evenings, activities and entertainment, uncrowded Algarve beaches, contrasting landscapes, history, culture, great food and wine.

The Western Algarve is under one hours drive by motorway from Faro International Airport, but it could be a world apart. From the gentle and secluded coves around Salema to the remote wild shores of the west coast pounded by the full force of the Atlantic and a surfers paradise, this is like no other part of Portugal.

To the east are the historic ports of Portimao and Lagos, and to the north the cork forests and mountains of Monchique. To the south is the ocean, with Africa beyond. To the west is the wild western coast and Cape St Vincent, the most southwesterly point in continental Europe.

Once off the beaten track, the Western Algarve is tranquil and un- commercialised, where time genuinely seems to have stood still. The coastline varies from remote beaches and picturesque fishing villages to historic ports steeped in maritime tradition. Inland, the rolling countryside is speckled with quaint hamlets where the highlight of the week is the traditional open-air market, at which local folk gather to buy and sell their fresh produce and wares.

Salema is situated within the Costa Vincentina Natural Park, a protected area of outstanding natural beauty on the Western Algarve of Portugal. At whatever time of the year you visit, the unique atmosphere, stunning surroundings and exceptional array of activities for all ages and interests make Salema the perfect holiday destination.

Salema’s pretty village centre has retained its traditional Portuguese charm, still having its own fleet of brightly coloured fishing boats catching sea bass, bream, octopus, sardines and mackerel. The village boasts shops, cafés, bars and a weekly market. Not surprisingly, there are several fabulous seafood restaurants huddled amongst white washed fishermen’s cottages. The small village is a delight to gently stroll around at any time of the day or evening.

we traveled in July as an extended family with our adult children, their partners and our grandparents. The villa is a fantastic place to have a family holiday, and set on the outskirts of a lovely village filled with decent restaurants and on a beautiful beach. the villa itself is a treat. 5 double bedrooms with Atlantic views, a large lounge, a well equipped kitchen, an optional flat downstairs for a few extra people (we paid the extra and it was well worth it) the villa also having a large games room, a pool, Jacuzzi and large BBQ area. a terrific place to have a large holiday. Picking out negatives seems churlish - but its fair to point out that the villa is a walk up quite hill from the village, and the direct route to the beach is really for mountain goats, only attempted by our adventurous adult son, and to note the pool /BBQ area looses the sunlight later in the day and it can be a bit windy up on the hill. Salema village is a classy little place, lots of places to eat and some of a very high standard, also a very nice beach itself, with a fully loaded supermarket a couple of miles back on the main road. Loved the holiday will go back one day when the bank balance allows. PS customer service with the villa is to a very high standard, all questions adressed quickly, and there is a local manager in place, plus maid service changing sheets and towels mid week was appreciated.

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2014

We simply could not have asked for anything better, this villa was amazing, and the scenery and view was idyllic. the whole family loved it, and the youngest members as well as the adults loved the pool and the games room. When we arrived we were greeted and had a very warm welcome. The whole place is stunning. the villa was spotlessly clean and we really could not fault anything about our holiday. the only bad thing was that our week went too quick and we had to come home. Salema itself is a lovely fishing village, which is a short walk from the villa, and there are a nice selection of restrants too. the beach is also fab. We like to explore on holiday, so we did hire a car and we visited many places, and everywhere we went was very accessible from the villa. There is also a supermarket just down the road which we found very handy. Love this place so much, we are booked to go again in 2014.

“Amazing place”

Amazing villa, pool and location. Peaceful but located within walking distance of Salema with supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Great beach. Extremely sfae for young children (we have a 2 yr old) as fully enclosed. Can't actually think of anything missing, all possibilities covered, including a shower at the pool side. Will definitely be coming back.

“Highly recommended”

Wonderful villa, beautiful views and very helpful staff both before we arrived and whilst we were there. The only small negative point to mention was the pool was too cold (26 degrees) for my 2 young children even with the pool heating on. However, it was a great holiday and I'd highly recommend it.

“A perfect place to stay”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2013

This is a fantastic place to stay and relax on holiday. As it had everything we needed, we only left the villa a few times to go to pick up provisions and go to the nearby beach (which is also recommended). The pool area and games room got a lot of use during the week but the whole villa is a joy to be in, beautifully designed and kept in immaculate condition. It was a total pleasure to stay at Casa das Estevas, easily one of the best holidays I have ever had and that was echoed by all of our group, adults and kids alike!

“wonderful villa in lovely location”

Reviewed 24 May 2013

Our family party of 10 [ 2 years old to 60 ] had a wonderful week in this spacious and beautiful villa with amazing views over the coastline and salema beach. The villa has 5 very comfortable bedrooms all with spectacular outlooks and the living/dining room also was a lovely space to relax and eat together in. Salema is great place --low key tourism and charming. The nearby supermarket was well stocked and the town also had several small grocery shops. The family all enjoyed using the well equipped games room . The pool was cool despite the heating being on. The village and beach are a short walk away.

“Amazing holiday with friends; beautiful location”

We spent a week at Salema with a group of friends in late September and could not fault the this wonderful, family run property on the Western Algave. Stunning location with plenty to occupy us in the surrounding area, a villa which has been finished to the highest specification and professional and expert service from the moment we first got in touch, special mention to Ben - thanks again, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend to anyone!

“Stunning accommodation and location!”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2012

The Estavas was simply stunning! We always hear the term 'location, location, location' but in the case of Casa das Estevas, it was all about 'location, accommodation and hospitality'! Every aspect of our stay was top draw. The views were amazing. To wake up to that see view every day was a dream. The cliff top position was a treat but yet so close to the town centre. Literally a 5 minute walk. In the town there are a good selection of quaint bars/restaurants and of course the beach! Salema has a lovely big clean beach which isn't too busy. Salema is such a traditional fishing town with character and not drowned in tourism. Coastal towns like Salema are hard to come by and we are delighted that we found it. The pool was beautiful and clean and there was plenty of space for everyone to relax and sunbathe in the consistent Algarve sun! The facilities are great if you have children or if you are just with friends. The Estevas has a large fun play/activity room which kept us all entertained day/night. The fixtures and fittings and the general specification of the villa is immaculate. You can tell that the owners have great taste and pride in their property. We can't recommend Simply Salema enough (who we used to book the Estevas). It was refreshing to liaise with the actual villa owners in contrast to previous holidays and other villas when we have booked them through young pushy sales people on the phone who have no local knowledge and may not have ever visited the accommodation which they are trying to sell. We have already booked for next year already and can't wait!!!

“Absolute bliss”

Thanks so much for letting my husband and I have a few days away at your amazing place! What else can you say for one of the loveliest villas and one of the most beautiful beaches we've ever visited, combined with one of the most unspoilt towns we've seen in the Algarve? We've got high standards and love travelling, but sunrise views from the bedroom, days spent sunning at the pool side and on the various decks or down on the beach, walks down the beach to Salema, dinner at excellent restaurants a short walk away - we loved it, and we didn't bother using the car the whole time we were there. We've promised our kids that we'll take them next time - we'd also be happy to go with another family or a group of adults. Highly recommended to all. As for the details: It was clean and as described, very well kitted out with quality items (both in the kitchen and the numerous games room "toys"), the local manager was friendly and made sure we felt comfortable calling him (we didn't need to). We paid extra for the pool heating and were glad that we did, we're tired of those "would be nice if" holidays in Portugal early or late season with beautiful pools which are too cold to relax in - it was worth it. There are no downsides to this villa - book it and enjoy!

“The perfect place to stop the world and get off!”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

The villa is in a great cliff top position with un-interupted views over the beach and to the horizon of the Atlantic. Beautiful sunsets shimmering across the water whilst sipping pimms or g & t's on the balcony. Could be very romantic, you never no your luck! Exceptionally spacious furnished/comfortable rooms/bedrooms throughout including well equipped kitchen. Very good in house entertainment, tv, boardgames, books, table tennis, darts etc and lovely private pool area. If there is a nip in the evening air you can have a cosy log fire to snuggle up to (romance looming again, or a game of draughts, never mind!). Well maintained by local staff with help and local knowledge close by. Nothing too much trouble at anytime. Nice cliff top walks in both directions with lots of places to explore both on foot or by car but without having to travel very far. Good local amenities and selection of eateries close enough to walk to and wobble back from.
