This delightful holiday home is situated at the top of Raleigh Road, a hilly road leading down into the town. The quays and mooring, ferry rides and beaches, boutiques and waterside cafes are a 15 minute walk away, while the beaches of North and South Sands are within close proximity.There is a wonderful 25m outdoor heated swimming pool within 100 metres which is open from May to September. This can be hired for private use (see internet for details). Lanapoule is a comfortable spacious 4 bedroom house, which has been beautifully refurbished for the 2015 holiday season. The hallway also gives access to a utility/kitchenette, which provides access down a short flight of steps to the rear gently terraced gardens. Upstairs opens up to the modern living room, with stunning views, which is open plan to the dining kitchen area. There is also a twin bedroom on this floor, with built-in double wardrobe.The modern kitchen is fully equipped. Appliances include a 4-ring gas range cooker, gas oven and grill, microwave, larder fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining area has a table with eight dining chairs. There is a large, comfortable and beautifully furnished sitting room, with ample seating for eight. It is equipped with a flatscreen TV with Freeview and DVD player. There is a feature log-burner fire place and Juliet balcony providing stunning views from the lounge area. The large gently terraced and walled garden is mainly laid to lawn, providing very pleasant level areas for outside entertaining or places simply to enjoy the open aspect. The foot of the garden steps leads to an enclosed Mediterranean garden patio area. It incorporates bench seating, ornamental pond and brick built barbecue. Furnished with garden table and chairs. This property boasts central heating and instant hot water via a gas boiler. One well behaved pet is permitted. Wireless broadband internet available. A travel cot and high chair is available. We also have a guest sofa bed located in the ground floor twin bedroom, alternatively we can make a Z-bed available for the ninth guest upon request.N.B. Bed linen and bath towels are included in the weekly price. Tenants need to bring beach and tea towels. Strictly no smoking permitted.Off-street parking for 2 cars and road-side parking for 2 cars.Note: From Spring 2015, Lanapoule has the flexibility to be used as one house, as it has previously been divided into two apartments; hence earlier reviews refer to this property as an apartment.

The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful.
Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover.
Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Salcombe is extremely popular as a sailing holiday destination, boasting a fabulous harbour and many facilities for boating enthusiasts. Indeed the annual sailing Regatta brings thousands to the town every year. Salcombe also has two beaches, North Sands and South Sands, both of which remain unspoilt and are perfect for sailing, surfing, swimming, sandcastle building, rock pooling or simply relaxing! Try crabbing on the quayside with a locally made ice cream, explore the National Trust gardens at Overbecks or for something more exhilarating, walk along the South West Coast Path and enjoy the breath-taking views out to sea. The town offers shops ranging from the butchers and bakery, to independent boutiques and designer clothing outlets.The main Fore Street also boasts many fabulous restaurants, offering fresh, locally caught seafood, including delicious South Devon crab.

“A Month Well Spent at Lanapoule”
In between house moves so decided to spend a month in Salcombe to ease the stress - what a great idea! Came across Lanapoule, contacted John (the owner), and booked it for the whole of October. It's actually two apartments - 2 beds and bathroom in each - we rented it all but would be great for friends wanting the privacy for example of separate sleeping areas whilst sharing the 'common' areas. Our son and his girlfriend joined us for a week so the separation was ideal ;) I think also the basement flat until recently a long term rental is now becoming available to provide even more space. Furnishings are comfortable, and in fitting with the relaxed style of the house which overlooks the estuary taking in views to Kingsbridge and Dartmoor - stunning on a clear day of which we had plenty in October. Don't think Lanapoule will disappoint many - though it is a very steep descent/ascent into Salcombe on foot, no problem for us 58 year olds though with our dog (yes it is very dog friendly). Salcombe itself? Probably our favourite place now. It's a good base to visit other areas, has some great restaurants - don't miss out on eating at the Victoria - simply superb for such a busy pub. East Portlemouth is a dream for any beach lover - get the £1.50 ferry over there. We'll be there again next year. Anyone like further info, just email me.

“Deceptively large, well appointed property in excellent location.”
Our family of five had a wonderful two weeks stay at Lanapoule. On arrival the property was very clean and all the furniture and equipment in excellent order. The house is spacious and the fact that the sitting room is situated upstairs is a real bonus as the views are lovely. John the owner was very helpful with lots of information before our visit and Salcombe and the surrounding area is a delight. We have already recommended this holiday home to our friends.

“Great apartment with everything we needed”
We stayed at Lanapoule for 5 nights and it was everything we needed. Its only a short drive to the main centre of Salcombe and all the neighbouring beaches and activities. The open plan living and kitchen has commanding views of the beautiful Devon countryside and the recently rennovated apartment was in great condition. We took our yong family and had a great time. We would recommend this apartment to anyone.

We stayed at Lanapoule in March 2014 for 4 days and had a wonderful time. We were extremely lucky with the weather, given the time of year. North Sands is surprisingly close to the apartment so we could easily walk to and from the beach, which we really made the most of. The accommodation is a perfect base for exploring the beautiful area. The views from the living room in the apartment are absolutely stunning. One of my favourite parts of our stay was settling down in the comfy chair by the Juliet balcony for a while with a glass of wine, taking in the spectacular scenery. We loved the decor in the apartment. It had just been refurbished before our stay I believe. The subtle sailing details in the bedrooms were a nice touch and we liked the modern, tasteful decoration throughout the rest of the apartment. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay and will definitely be re-booking later this year.
