Location description from owner

The Poitou-Charentes region

The Ile de Ré, with its several ports, many beaches, and low lying, whitewashed communities, has long been popular as a vacation spot for French families. With the arrival of a causeway in 1988 linking the island to the mainland, the island's inhabitants have tried to manage growth without harming the island's charm and authenticity. Significant restrictions on new construction, and strict standards, have long existed.

Sainte Marie de Re

The smallness (some 20 miles long and at some locations only yards wide), flatness, and variety (beach, forest, and wildlife) of the island makes it ideal for recreational cycling. It is also popular for sailing, and most water sports. After a day of sightseeing and sport, many like to finish a summer day with an evening outside at one of the local ports' cafés, watching the boats come in.The numerous sights of the island are best discussed in the island's website: www.iledere.com.

“Comfortable Stay”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2016

We throughly enjoyed our family stay at this gite for x5 nights (x6 adults & x2 young children). Ideal base for exploring Ile de Re & it's quaint villages & also La Rochelle. We weren't aware of the 8 Euro bridge toll to enter the island, but weren't to bothered by this. Gite only a short walking distance from Sainte Marie's x2 main squares with shops & market stalls. There's also a nearby Carrfour Contact & beach access with a children's playground. The gite was comfortable & accommodated us well. We received a very warm welcome from a local couple acting on behalf of the owner. Owner was easily contactable when we had an issue with the hot water system. We appreciated the tourist information & maps left for us. Back yard was secure for our young boys. We brought our own linen & found the place to be very clean upon entry. Only critisim is that some of the crockery was covered in mold due to an old style kitchen with poor air circulation. Overall though a very pleasant stay. Additionally we'd highly recommend the market at Le Bois Plage.

“The most charming getaway imaginable for sun, sea and relaxation .”

I had a great stay with friends here . It is a beautiful spacious and light property with all the charm one would expect of the Ile de Ré . The bedrooms were well considered each with its own personal theme . Everywhere was clean , comfortable and well designed. The woodburning stove gave warmth and ambiance to evening relaxation after a stroll along the nearby beach which was well within walking distance. I would fully recommend this holiday let and can't wait to return there myself.

“FANTASTIC !”
