Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

Saint Pons De Mauchiens.

St Pons de Mauchiens.
Popular with walkers it is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of every day life. It has about 600 inhabitants. The village is perched on a hill and is typical of the circular type villages dating back to the XI and XII centuries. Discover the castle at its pinnacle by meandering through the pretty stone paths that lead to the top. The castle was built in 1199 and it just a stroll from the apartment.

There is a small grocery shop in the village which sells the essentials. You can also grab a coffee there. There is also a brasserie serving food and a small restaurant. Or just 2 minutes drive or 25 minutes walk is the village of St Pargoire with 2 restaurants, a bar and some small supermarkets.

You can easily visit the Camargue National Park with its flamingos and wild horses, the walled city of Carcasonne , the fishing port of Sète, the well preserved Roman cities of Nimes and Arles or the bustling city of Montpellier.
During the summer months there is late night shopping every Wednesday and Friday evening until 12 midnight, when the narrow medieval streets stay alive with the bustling atmosphere of craft shops and outdoor bars & restaurants.
On Saturdays there is a huge all day market through the centre of town selling wonderful, local, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, shellfish, olives, cheese, oil, wine, bread.. the list goes on!!
