Description from owner

Description

Domaine de Cournet-Haut, which was once a 17th century hunting lodge, is today home to a peaceful and beautifully restored holiday residence. Set on 13 acres of gardens, lawns and bright mature forest, it provides the space and serenity for great family holidays and relaxing country breaks. There are a total of 8 houses to rent on the domain, but with a maximum capacity of 39 and the houses well spread apart, you will still enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. Domaine de Cournet-Haut has been family run for 35 years and we are always onsite to give recommendations and to make your visit to our area as enjoyable as possible.

“Le Saule is situated at the top of the forest (while only a mere 120 meters from the pool) which means that peace is the main asset of this house. The interior of the house has been completely renovated in 2014, giving it a bright, fresh look. Please note there is no wifi in the house but there is a free wifi zone down by the reception and around

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

"The Dordogne département is for many people the picture-perfect image of the French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields, hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade-green woods. Named after the most important of the region’s seven rivers, the Dordogne is better-known to the French as Périgord, spiritual home to two of the country’s enduring culinary passions – foie gras and the black truffle. The Dordogne is famous for its stunning cave paintings, as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns – reminders of the battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years’ War.” – Lonely Planet Guide. Here in Domaine de Cournet Haut, you will be ideally located to visit many of the stunning sites of the region. Sarlat - 27km. Castelnaud - 16km. Beynac - 20km. Domme - 17km. Marqueyssac gardens -18km. Belvès - 18km. Monpazier - 27km. Les Eyzies and the Lascaux caves - 36km

Saint Pompon

Domaine de Cournet-Haut is located 800m from Saint Pompon, a picturesque little village of 250 inhabitants which offers charming little backstreets to explore. It has a very good restaurant, two bars, a small supermarket, butcher, baker and pharmacy. It has a farmers market every Friday morning and guests can also enjoy the atmosphere and local cooked food of the night market every Saturday night during the summer months. We are located within 15mins of the Dordogne valley (listed a “Biosphere World Reserve” by UNESCO) where you can enjoy canoeing and visiting many castles and medival villages.

“Just what we had been looking for”

Reviewed 26 Nov 2015

Fanny and Alan were so kind and really made us feel most welcome. . They have a beautiful property in rural France yet with the advantages of aquaint village with good amenities close by. There were 3 generations in our party, yet there was something for us all to do in and around the domaine without having to drive. Cant wait to return!

“Wonderful setting, excellent facilities and genial hosts”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2015

We last visited Cournet-Haute 25 years ago and had 3 holidays in successive years at that time. Our return with our grandson was a trip down memory lane and we were absolutely delighted to find that under the stewardship of the second generation of the host family the charming atmosphere has been retained whilst the facilities have been appropriately updated. This is an ideal retreat with private, peaceful accommodation that is immaculately presented. The swimming, cycling and tennis are outstanding and should you be tempted to leave Cournet-Haute, all of the places of interest on the delightful Dordogne are easily accessible.

“Relaxing, modern accommodation at the heart of the Dordogne”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2014

We found this accommodation through Trip Advisor so were keen to share our thoughts with other travellers. The site is immaculate, well-maintained with lots of facilities (tennis, badminton, table tennis, boules, fab swimming pool) to suit our 11 year old and 14 year old on the days when we decided to stay at "home". The lodge is ideally situated - walking distance of a pretty village with good local shops and a fab restaurant and only 20 minutes drive from some of the best sites in the Dordogne. The lodge itself was clean and modern with very pleasant decor. The kitchen was very well-equipped and had everything we needed for the week. Would highly recommend Domaine de Cournet-Haut as a place to stay for families of all ages. We will return!

“Fabulous holiday, perfect location, idyllic surrounds”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2013

The residence of Cournet De haut has to be one of my all time favourite holidays. The cabins/villas in the grounds were more than adequate for a base, and all very comfortable and clean. The owners were very helpful with any questions. Pool and views amazing. Only 30minutes from some of the most picturesque scenery I have experienced. Jardins de Marqueysac are a must. Also canoeing along the Dordogne. I am hoping to book again for next year, and will be recommending to all my friends and family.
