Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

"The Dordogne département is for many people the picture-perfect image of the French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields, hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade-green woods. Named after the most important of the region’s seven rivers, the Dordogne is better-known to the French as Périgord, spiritual home to two of the country’s enduring culinary passions – foie gras and the black truffle. The Dordogne is famous for its stunning cave paintings, as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns – reminders of the battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years’ War.” – Lonely Planet Guide. Here in Domaine de Cournet Haut, you will be ideally located to visit many of the stunning sites of the region. Sarlat - 27km. Castelnaud - 16km. Beynac - 20km. Domme - 17km. Marqueyssac gardens -18km. Belvès - 18km. Monpazier - 27km. Les Eyzies and the Lascaux caves - 36km

Saint Pompon

Domaine de Cournet-Haut is located 800m from Saint Pompon, a picturesque little village of 250 inhabitants which offers charming little backstreets to explore. It has a very good restaurant, two bars, a small supermarket, butcher, baker and pharmacy. It has a farmers market every Friday morning and guests can also enjoy the atmosphere and local cooked food of the night market every Saturday night during the summer months. We are located within 15mins of the Dordogne valley (listed a “Biosphere World Reserve” by UNESCO) where you can enjoy canoeing and visiting many castles and medival villages.

“A high quality residence in a beautiful setting”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2014

We very much enjoyed our stay at Cournet Haut, the chalet we stayed in was spacious and comfortable, very well equipped. The owners made us very welcome: we had two dogs with us and they were welcomed too. We enjoyed the local walking, maps showing suggested routes were made available at reception. The pool was a welcome spot to relax after a long walk. The village of St Pompon is lovely, all the basic needs are there.

“A peaceful location with plenty to keep the children occupied so parents can relax!”

The accommodation was as described on the website, very clean and well equipped. Most of our time was spent outside making full use of the excellent leisure facilities. The children particularly loved the pool which is well maintained and ideal for parents to sit and relax by while supervising. We also enjoyed tennis, badminton, table tennis and boules. A very welcoming location and ideal for exploring the surrounding area.

“A warm welcome in beautiful surroundings”

Cornet-Haut is in a beautiful, peaceful location ideal for lazing around the pool or for being active [ walking, biking etc ] Restaurants nearby are excellent and there is lots to see and do in the area. The owners are very helpful - nothing is too much trouble.

“A lovely place to stay - owners couldn't be more helpful”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2012

We had a really good, relaxing holiday at Cournet Haut. It's a well-maintained site in a lovely setting. There are a series of wooden chalets within sloping woodland as well as converted stone buildings 'on the flat'. The chalets are being completely refurbished and I would try and get one of those - we saw the standard of one of the refurbished stone buildings and it was excellent - 5 star. That said, we stayed in one of the unrefurbished chalets and still thought it was really good value for money. The key thing is that the site is run and managed by the owners who go out of their way to sort out any problems or anything you need. The swimming pool is a good size and maintained spotlessly, there is the added bonus of free bike hire and several off-road routes - maps provided in reception. There are no grocery facilities on site but the village with baker, butcher, bar, pharmacy and a really good restaurant is just a 5-10 minute walk away - or we just hopped on one of the bikes to get the morning croissants. This is very much a get away from it all place - very peaceful but with lots to do if you want to.
