Description

Domaine de Cournet-Haut, which was once a 17th century hunting lodge, is today home to a peaceful and beautifully restored holiday residence. Set on 13 acres of gardens, lawns and bright mature forest, it provides the space and serenity for great family holidays and relaxing country breaks. There are a total of 8 houses to rent on the domain, but with a maximum capacity of 39 and the houses well spread apart, you will still enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. Domaine de Cournet-Haut has been family run for 35 years and we are always onsite to give recommendations and to make your visit to our area as enjoyable as possible.

“La Bergerie” which makes up part of an internal courtyard is a mere stone’s throw from the swimming pool and its terrace overlooks the garden and tennis court. The house received a complete makeover in 2011 giving added comfort and light yet retaining its original charm.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

The Dordogne dpartement is for many people the picture-perfect image of the French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields, hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade-green woods. Named after the most important of the regions seven rivers, the Dordogne is better-known to the French as Prigord, spiritual home to two of the countrys enduring culinary passions foie gras and the black truffle. The Dordogne is famous for its stunning cave paintings, as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns reminders of the bloody battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years War. “Faultless, a fantastic place”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

The owners are warm and welcoming, learning our childrens names, and making sure we wanted for nothing, the location is spectacular, we stayed in Le bergerie and the view was beautiful, and the kids had pool, trampoline and forests to keep them entertained, simply wonderful

“Perfect accommodation in peaceful, tranquil surroundings.”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2013

Domaine de Cournet-Haut is a perfect base for exploring this part of the Dordogne. The property is very well equipped & maintained, the owners have thought of just about everything. La Bergerie is beautifully & tastefully decorated & furnished, peaceful and quiet with beautiful gardens and grounds. Warm welcome from the friendly and generous owners who were happy to answer any queries and provide any local information we needed e.g.maps for local walks. Excellent on site facilities e.g. covered parking, bicycle hire (road & mountain bikes), boules. Five minutes by car to well-stocked village supermarket. Trouble-free drive from Bergerac Airport. Close to Domme, La Roque Gageac, Beynac & Sarlat. We loved our stay here, couldn't fault it in any way.

“AN IDYLLIC RETREAT”

Reviewed 22 Nov 2012

The fact that we return year after year to Cournet Haut is testimony to its charm. The owners have created and nurtured an outstanding holiday destination that should answer the needs of the most demanding of guests. The physical attractions are there in all their glory on the website but it is also the ambiance that entices us back and make us so reluctant to depart.

“A beautiful property in beautiful area topped off with amazing customer service”

Reviewed 18 Nov 2012

Following a recommendation we booked a week at Domaine de Cournet Haut to catch up with friends and family during our European holiday. We were not disappointed. I have to say their website, although very good doesn't do the place justice. We stayed in the stone cottage 'La Bergerie' with family and friends scattered through three other cottages on the property. You do need a car to fully experience the surrounding towns and villages. There is plenty to see and do within 30 minutes drive. Saying that St Pompon is a beautiful little village and only 10-15 minutes walk down the road from the property and has everything you could need if you want to stay close. The hospitality we experienced was second to none. Nothing was to much trouble and we were made to feel right at home.
