Description

The self catering Chateau and its delightful Gatehouse (2 adjoining properties) are available to rent either as a whole or the Chateau as a 5 bedroom property and provide a truly relaxing environment to enjoy a holiday with friends or family. The Chateau was built in 1820 and is set in 10 acres of beautiful parkland.The Chateau is located on the edge of a small hamlet on the Dordogne/Charente border, 10 minutes drive from the market town of Riberac. It is only a mile to the nearest village where you can find a small local shop, boulangerie, post office, tabac, doctor, pharmacie, a couple of bars and a restaurant. Within a short drive there are several river beaches or lakes and the nearest beach is 1hr 40 minutes away. The nearest airports are Bergerac (1hr) and Bordeaux (1hr 40 minutes) and you can get the TGV at Angouleme (40 minutes).

The Chateau

The sympathetically restored Chateau has a spacious entrance hall leading through into the large grand salon. This room has two double doors leading out on to a large, semi-circular, south facing terrace with spectacular views of the park. There is a smaller secondary salon, an impressive dining room, relaxed TV room, kitchen and cloakroom. An elegant sweeping staircase leads to the first floor where there are five double bedrooms, four of them are ensuite and the fifth has a wc cubicle. Bedroom 1 Small double with wc cubicle, overlooking the front of the Chateau. Bedroom 2 Double, dual aspect, front and park views, ensuite with a shower. Bedroom 3 Double, dual aspect, park views, ensuite with a shower. Bedroom 4 Master room, two large windows facing over the park, walk in wardrobe, ensuite with a shower. Bedroom 5 Double, overlooking the park, ensuite with bath. This ensuite could also be used by Bedroom 1. All bedrooms are large enough to accommodate a cot and/or an extra bed. The chateau can be heated for an extra cost. Please contact the owners for prices.

The Grounds

The 10 acre park is completely enclosed. From the main gate there is a lemon shaped double drive leading up to the Chateau and the Gatehouse. There is a large pond near the main gate and an impressive bamboo forest. The park has a fantastic variety of trees including some very old Cedars of Lebanon.

The large swimming pool is fully enclosed with a lockable gate. The pool will be shared with the Gatehouse but the Chateau Terrace and Main lawn will be for the exclusive use of the Chateau guests. The large 'L' shaped pool has a shallow end with a depth of 0.75m accessible by steps and then slopes down to 3m which can be accessed by hanging stairs or off the diving board. The pool can be lit up for night time swimming and can be heated at an extra cost.There are plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas, unheated shower and wc cubicle.

The Guardians are based on site but their house is set back from the Chateau. They will be available at certain times should the guests need them but all the facilities are for the guests exclusive use.

There is a local tourist tax payable by the guests, please contact the owners and they will be able to let you know the price of this as it varies depending on number of guests and adults and children.
