Saint Laurent de la Prée is a village to live and discover...

This very old commune extends over a territory of 2751 ha, it is remarkable for the diversity of its landscapes: middle to both aquatic and Bocage, close to the sea, bordered by the Charente areas forested and Marsh are everywhere.

St. Lawrence now has almost 2,000 whose life revolves around 2 main poles and several small hamlets:-the Town Centre with the Town Hall, the multi-purpose hall, Church, shops, gardens, small alleys, its slopes, its traditional Charentais houses and its recent constructions. It continues towards the Charente at a place called 'The rock' overlooking the marshes and the ocean to "Les Charmilles", without forgetting that the village hosts a 'zone of activities' inter-communal a dozen craftsmen and tradesmen.

-On the other side, the hamlet of "Saint-Pierre", with the same characteristics: beautiful houses old which the so-called 'the Castle', farms and recent developments. "Saint-Pierre" is also a place of attraction for everyone: the school in the village and the railway stop are localized, and if you are sports, golf country Rochefortais offers its course and his school.

Around Saint-Pierre, some localities: «Touchelonge», «Houmée», «La Cabane East '...

Saint Laurent de la Prée, 5 km from the ocean, welcomes in kind with its bar and restaurant, its tobacco bar you and invites you to hiking along the canal de Charras, on the banks of the Charente, and all swamp and wood surroundings.

The fully restored Church, can observe some graffiti dating back 1,000 years. At the discretion of the successive modifications, styles blend: pre-Romanesque for the nave, the portal and the South Chapel; Gothic for the choir; 17th century for the Bell Tower. The stained glass windows are new.

'Closed stones' near the Houmee, one can observe 2 dolmens which is intact (listed historical monument). These megaliths are very special and very rare as they consist of 2 stones: a large block whose interior was dug and a coverage table. Archaeologists have established with certainty the funeral destination of these dolmens.

The locks of the canal of Charras Charras channel borders Saint-Laurent de la Prée along the Charente from the locality 'in rock'. We pass through the locks of the rock, the Parpagnole; then we continue towards Saint-Pierre at the Linguette lock to reach the bridge of Charras. A former lock House is visible, and is the subject of a rehabilitation project. The canal de Charras is a favourite place for fishermen, especially the rising tide, and for walkers. The canal continues northward well beyond the borders of the commune.

The squares on the Charente the scantlings are part of the images that you will retain the coastal landscape of Saint-Laurent de la Prée.

A plaice is a hut of fishermen, the feet in water, built in wood on stilts and connected to the shore by a pontoon.

Net square, suspended from a pole, is down and reassembled using a winch.

You can see along the banks of the Charente, and fishermen who are there always were kind enough to show you this technique of fishing.

The particularly rich marshes by the diversity of its flora, which varies throughout the seasons, and its fauna, the Marsh is an environment in which plants and animals are closely linked.
