Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The beach is the main thing in this area - miles of sandy beach, islands, pine forests. - and the amazing climate. We have an average of 2700 hours of sunshine a year, whereas the rest of France averages 1300 hours. This is not a built-up part of France and, although the traffic can sometimes be noticeable, on the whole it is a quiet area. Yet there is something for everybody not far, with golf, horse riding, all water sports, fun parks, ancient fortifications, markets and wonderful shops, restaurants.

Saint-Just-Luzac

The village has just a baker and a small general store. There is also a bar-restaurant but your guess is as good as mine as to whether they'll be open or not ! Short stroll through the woodland at the back of the property. All main shops 4 kms.

“Good location but too many drawbacks with property”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2016

Domaine Rochebonne could be an absolutely wonderful destination, but unfortunately it falls short of that. The pluses are that it is a very private location with a handful of self-contained houses, it has a lovely shared pool and the communal garden area has a high wall with closed gates which makes it ideal for children. The surrounding area is also lovely, with the quiet town of Marennes and its charming port at La Cayenne a short drive away, and the bustling Ile D'Oleron with its wonderful beaches a little further on, across the bridge. However, for us there were too many minuses. Overall, the place is tired and dated, with little evidence of proper investment. Our property smelt fusty and it would have been preferable for some of our final cleaning bill to be used to have our property properly clean on arrival. The owners seemed unconcerned with any problems, and habitually forgot about requests. However, the most disturbing thing for us was that the owner's husband repeatedly walked into our property unannounced and without knocking. I would find it utterly bizarre and questionable if the manager of a hotel continually walked into my family's room without knocking, and without any announcement. It would not be acceptable in any other type of accommodation, so why should it be any different here? I take on board some positive reviews that have been written here about these properties, (a simple Google search will provide some differing perspectives), but I feel that if you are paying up to £2,000 a week, things really need to be up to scratch. I really love this area, but on overall reflection I would look somewhere else for accommodation. I don't like leaving negative feedback, but you can check out the fairness of my reviews under my profile.

Owner's reply: Oh dear, poor Bruce ! We used to live there, you see, and Bruce is a creature of habit. He didn't do it on purpose and it wasn't as though he actually went in - he only opened the door and, as we were there just 4 days out of your 2 weeks, I do feel it a tad unkind of you to moan about it, not least because he apologised profusely each time. The excellence of the cleanliness of the property is something people often comment on, and as the kitchen and bathrooms are barely a year old, I have difficulty understanding the rest of your comments. Either way, I am so sad things were not as you wished.
