Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

Limousin, located in the central France, is one of the most rural régions in the country and is perfect for those looking for tranquillity and remote, unspoiled landscapes. Its green wooded hills are dotted with old churches and castles and charming villages and bastides. Watersports lovers will be in their element as there are deep gorges, numerous rivers and "1,000" lakes. It's excellent territory for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and fishing. The only large town is Limoges, a pleasant place famed for its pottery.

Saint-Julien-le-Vendomois

The medieval town of St Yrieix la Perche, a 20 minute drive, has a great choice of restaurants and supermarkets to stock up on local produce. Have an afternoon wandering round the medieval streets and their boutiques.

Pompadour, 20 minutes drive, is known as the city of the horse. Home to one of France's national equestrian centres the town boasts an historic chateau as well as a racecourse which holds many top class equestrian events throughout the year. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose.

Ségur le Château, 15 minutes drive, sitting on the Auvézère river, this officially designated a "most beautiful village in France". On the route of Richard the Lionheart the town is also the birthplace of King Henry IV of France. Today, it is a beautiful place to visit and every Monday during the summer months it hosts what is known as a 'Market Picnic'. Here you can buy local meat, fish and vegetables from local producers and then take them to be cooked to your taste on one of the many Barbecues. There's also live music , wine and cider stalls and bars. A night for all the family, not to be missed!
