The Island of Malta region

Malta is an excellent holiday destination for all walks of Life, whether a family holiday, romantic Getaways, simply leisure or business trip. Weather is usually fantastic with true Mediterranean weather conditions. Overall Malta can be exciting, exotic , romantic, historic and very entertaining.

The island consists of three main islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino Island. Getting around is easy and can venture anywhere with a car on main land Malta from just under an hour. The island is modernizing, though laid back, through Mediterranean lifestyle and surrounded by the beautiful Mediterranean sea all round. There are several places of interest to choose from, beaches to historic museums, water sports, nightlife and entertainment.

Saint Julian's

The area is ideally situated for St George’s Bay, where there is a good sandy beach suitable for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. Various other watersports can be tried in Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking and kayaking. There are some fantastic places in here to explore making it a great place for hiking, horseback riding and cycling, while the promenade heading to Sliema is popular with joggers. There is plenty on offer in Malta for sports enthusiasts including an 18-hole golf course at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. This same club also offers miniature golf, swimming, tennis and squash. Visitors will find many places to dine in the area including restaurants, bars and cafes. There are some great shops located in the area for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drink as well as souvenirs. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants at the nearby resort of Sliema.

Places to visit on holiday to St Julian’s Bay & Paceville, Malta

This area of Malta is regarded as Malta’s main nightlife centre with several clubs, casinos and bars. These two towns also have several fascinating buildings including the historic Giovanni Spinola built in 1658. The Villa Dragonara is another fine building with great sea views and now houses the casino.

Weather in St Julian’s Bay & Paceville, Malta

The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10C. There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally November and December with an average of 111mm per month.

Day Trips from St Julian’s Bay & Paceville, Malta

Visitors may also like to take a trip to the coastal resorts of St Paul’s Bay and Bugibba in the north of the island, where there is lots of nightlife and entertainment. Victoria is the main town on the island of Gozo and offers many interesting places to visit as well as good shops and restaurants.

"Excellent well equipped spacious Villa"

Great location, large spacious well equipped Villa. Perfect for a large family. Greens supermarket close by with a large selection of products. Swimming pool was used every day. Never needed to use the indoor pool.

"Absolutely Fantastic!"

We could not have asked for more from our stay at villa Belvedere! From the moment we arrived in Malta we were collected from the airport by transfers arranged by David and then met at the house by Jane. The villa was fantastic, ample space for 18 people and the bonus of glorious weather in April meant we made full use of the pool and the great outdoor space too! Not a single thing that i could find to fault with the villa or the holiday in general, would most definitely recommend renting from David and Jane.

We are happy that you had a great stay at villa belvedere. Appreciated your review. Thanks David and Jane

"Great Times"

Hey, Great location and huge house with a lot of space and extra stuff for the kids like the very nice indoor pool, the pool, the table tennis and the Foosball table. Outdoor pool area nice, but due to weather not used much...but for sure nothing negative to say and hard to blame the house for the weather.:)

"Lives up to expectation"

Beautiful villa just as pictures and brochure illustrated. We had an amazing time with family and friends. The villa is beautiful and David & Jane looked after airport pickups and excursions to make the holiday hassle free with lots of great memories.

"Beautiful and comfortable."

Loved this property and its views from the upper balcony's. Well equipped and comfortable. Jane greeted us and made us welcome. Loved the indoor pool although the water was slightly chilly.

"Great value family holiday!!"

We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Villa Belvedere. Fifteen of us, which included 6 children between the ages of 2 and 14, and 9 adults stayed at the villa for a full week in July and it suited us perfectly from the moment we arrived. Here's what we loved: - Loads of bedrooms well laid out and more than enough bathrooms for everyone to stay out of each other's way. The villa is HUGE - constant hot water, which blasts out at a lovely high pressure in the showers - 2 decent sized fridges and freezers so we could stock up on plenty of food and drink and ice - a beautiful private outside pool with fab bbq and access to a brand new indoor pool (which includes a super cool seating area with couches. If we'd had more time we would have made more use of it) - great wifi access - mind-blowing views from numerous balconies - modern, clean decor with plenty of seating for everyone - a washing machine! awesome, hardly had anything to wash when we got home. - travel cot provided - good pillows and linen - awesome kids play area with playhouses and all sorts in lower ground floor, my kids (2 and 4), loved them! - an industrial sized washing line - and do ask David to organise airport transfers for you, it was great walking off the plane and seeing our name board in the airport! The villa was lovely and clean on arrival and Jane was very welcoming. We needed milk, bread and all the basics and Jane drove three of us down to Green's (some of the reviewers call it an aladdin's cave and this is so true!), the local grocery shop, waited for us to stock up and drove us all the way back. Thank you Jane! (she also helped me print some boarding passes which i'd stupidly forgotten at home and hand delivered them the morning of our departure so another big thank you to Jane!) I've seen some other reviewers moan about the usage allowance of water and electricity but I have to say, we were reasonably careful but not obsessively so and we didn't go over our usage allowance at all - we did loads of washing and the dishwasher was on every night. So I would say just behave normally and you'll be fine. Some other tips: On the villa - this is self catering people! some basic supplies are provided on arrival (dishwasher tablets, a few toilet rolls) so you will need to stock up on the essentials for the week, when you're there. (you want all-inclusive?? then be prepared to pay thousands more for somewhere else. This villa is great value for money.) - wifi costs, the policy on usage allowance, aircon costs, check out time and the 1,000 euros deposit are all clearly laid out on booking so make sure the rest of your party are aware too if you're all clubbing in together. - on aircon ... some reviews say to allow for 200 euros ... we were there in middle of july and only used it when we went to bed and it was pretty hot. with all the kids coming in and out we couldn't keep the doors closed so there was just no point. I don't like aircon and didn't have it on in our room at all - it was warm but you can easily leave a window open with the fly screen in place and it was fine for us. i think we ended up buying two of the aircon cards, about 160 euros in total - the towels supplied are more than adequate for bathing etc but i do recommend bringing one beach towel per person - i was initially worried about the pool and my two little ones as they can't swim yet but there were plenty of doors and ways to keep them out of the pool area with very little effort, it wasn't a worry at all. - David and Jane are so accommodating, if you need anything just call them. More generally - the water in Malta is undrinkable. Safe, i think but not too good. Stock up on plenty of bottled water! - Green's was great but we ended up doing a massive shopping trip at GS Stores on day 2 or 3 where we stocked up on tons of bottled water and food for the rest of the week. It's a convoluted car journey of about 7 minutes. GS also has a crazy underground car park. It's no Sainsburys or Tesco but if you want to be the world's most organised holiday maker you can order online and they deliver. (we didn't use this facility but it looks pretty promising) - the nearby water park is AMAZING! do it! do it! - On the second day, we ended up hiring three cars for the rest of the week (with so many of us and lots of kids it made sense) and David or Jane can help to organise this. - make sure you visit the Valetta Waterfront, it's very lovely, especially in the evening. We had dinner at a place called the Lava Lounge and it was great. - If you plan to hire a car bring a satnav which has been updated with Malta maps!!! Google Maps was an epic fail getting back from various places by car ... Malta is an island but it's not that tiny either and the road signs aren't brilliant. Make sure you have decent navigation or take a taxi. All in all, I would definitely recommend Villa Belvedere for a good value family holiday.

"relaxing home from home with beautiful views"

Arrived late on the Sunday night for our wk in Malta (getting married on the Wed) greeted by Jane who was so friendly and helpful, showing us around explaining things. We recieved a welcoming food pack perfect until the following days shop as there was 8 adults and 3 children. (the shop is a small walk from the Villa) The Villa itself is very spacious, clean and even with 11 of us there was always somewhere quiet to go if needed :) the pool and jacuzzi were cooler than expected but that was the time of yr, we arrived we should've done our homework!!! it still didnt stop us from going in tho! the views from every room are amazing. For any parents of children out there, we took the bedroom which had another room inside the bedroom which had bunkbeds and a travel cot. We have a 4yr old and 2 yr old so we were safe in the knowledge knowing they were safe in there with us :) The water was always hot due to the solar panels at the top of the Villa, great for washing up, even tho there was a dishwasher there too and showers due to the heat too. BBQ area was great we had 3 that wk. They had everything there, a washing machine on the lower floor with lots of hanging space outside to the side, dishwasher, lots of cooking pots and pans, air con if needed, dvd player which came in handy for the kids, a home from home. We love the shop down the road Greens Supermarket, u can also find them online, their prices are amazing better than Lidl which we were very suprised about. we took our small hand luggage suitcases with us due to the amount of food and water we were getting, handy tip :) I would recommend the Villa Belvedere to any large family without hesitation and look forward to going back there in the future, thanks David and Jane :)

"Amazing villa!"

Wow is all I can say, from the moment we walked in until we left we were in awe. We barely wanted to go explore Malta the place was so fantastic. The pool was slightly too cold as it was April and the weather was not very hot but we still had a swim and it was clean. For such a big place it was kept extremely clean, you would expect some dirt and dust but there was none it was spotless. We never made use of the bbq area but again in summer I could imagine having a nice bbq by the pool. Overall I would mark this place 10/10 and will be recommending to my friends and colleagues.

"Fantastic Villa, in Ideal location for Relaxation"

Villa Belvedere is a modern, bright and stunning villa. All the necessary mod cons for a relaxing and stress free holiday are on site. We travelled as a large group of 12 to Malta in September 2012. The owners - Jane and David were very hospitable, and helpful. They organised our transport from the airport to the Villa (arriving late and not knowing where to go, this was an ideal solution), and left a very informative folder in the living area detailing taxi numbers, nearest shop ( Greene's grocery and fresh food market - 10 min walk away - stocks everything you can think of – from beach towels to bottles of wine). The town of Paceville/St Julians is a 20minute walk away (all downhill, although the walk back uphill is not the most pleasant! – I would recommend the bus - number 12, 14 brings you adjacent to the villa, or a taxi is €10 one way). We were very impressed with Jane’s organisation of a boat trip out to the islands of Gozo and Comino. This was a fantastic day out, and I would thoroughly recommend it. Everything was organised for us - a taxi picked us up from the Villa, dropped us to the boat, lunch was provided on board, and a taxi dropped us back to the Villa afterwards. A few comments on our stay would be the following: - Watch out for the extra electricity and water usage, as this is taken out of the deposit at the end of the stay. Limiting the use of the A/C is recommended, but it does get very stuffy in the night - There are basic supplies (toilet roll, bin bags) provided however not enough for a full week, and we had to go to the shop and buy more. - Supplied is 1 set of towels per person. There are no extras available. This meant we had to buy washing machine detergent, and wash our towels halfway through the week. This was a bit annoying. - A net for the pool could have been supplied, as it was quite windy when we were there, and lots of flies, and leaves were in the pool, and made it look dirty. Also, the Jacuzzi area did not work when we were there, which was a disappointment. A few extra sunbeds around the pool would have been nice – there were only 4, and as there were 12 of us – it was a matter of first come first serve in the mornings. - Another point is the checkout time is quite early on the day of departure – 9.30am. Our flight was not until 9pm that evening, and as there were more people to arrive in that day, we had to vacate the villa for the day for cleaning. Jane did allow us to store our luggage in the office for the day though, which was very handy. All in all, we enjoyed our trip to Malta, and our stay in Villa Belvedere really made us appreciate the stunning area and location. The views are incredible from the 2nd/3rd floor of the Villa – looking onto the sea and marina. I would definitely recommend this Villa to anyone who is looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday. There is plenty of room in the villa for people to spread out, and not get too claustrophobic – plenty of balconies and areas to relax and leave the stress from the “real” world behind. We would like to thank Jane and David for a fantastic holiday again, and an amazing week in the Island of Malta.

Whilst we thank you for your time in submitting us a good review, i have taken the minor issues you had into consideration and that i can respond in just a few words. Electricity and water is a usual procedure for us that guests are given the actual reading upon arrival. They are also given enough usage consumption for the whole week. Yes, however it must be used responsibly as it is payable extra for that extra usage (subject to over consumption here). Guests are provided with starter pack for the first few days. Then it is on a self catering basis. Check out time is 09.30am mornings. Two cleaners run the villa in cleaning and the check in time is at 15.30pm afternoons. The villa is huge and takes time for cleaning to be done and prepare for other guests to come. very glad to hear that you had a wonderful time cruising the islands of Gozo, comino and blue lagoon. Thanks again David and Jane
