Loire Valley farm cottage located in the country hamlet of Vrigny close to St Georges sur Cher near Montrichard and Chenonceau; suitable for a family (cot/high chair included) of 4-5 or two couples. Quiet situation two minutes from lovely vineyard walks and the river Cher and five minutes from the village shops and restaurant in St. Georges sur Cher. 5 minute drive to Chenonceau the most visited Chateau after Versailles.

Maison Doiseau is set in a large enclosed garden in full sunshine, It has two double bedrooms (one with additional single bed, the other with baby cot). Upstairs bathroom with corner bath and toilet plus a large luxury ground floor shower room equipped with shower, bidet, basin and toilet . There is electric radiator heating throughout the cottage. We have a large sitting room with a large fireplace and wood burning stove so snug in the winter, TV/ DVD and CD player, WIFI. Family sized gourmet kitchen diner with large oak table; the kitchen is equipped for keen cooks with six burner SMEG electric hob, a Neff double oven, two sinks, fridge freezer and microwave plus washing machine. dish washer and tumble drier - local markets and shops provide a very good selection of fresh produce. There is plenty of off street parking.

Outside dining and sunbathing area with BBQ and full use of the orchard garden. The garden is fully enclosed so safe for children. There is a garage which keeps the bicycles and lawnmower and tumble dryer. There is plenty of space for parking available. The shared garden is extensive and although there are three cottages co-located they each have their own space. We have BBQ and loungers, outside tables and chairs, and a range of bicycles for outings in the vicinity.

Our cottages are situated in the heart of chateau (castle) country in the Loire Valley. We are well placed for visiting these wonderful historic castles; favourites include Chenonceau (just a 2 mile drive or cycle ride), Amboise, Blois, Chambord, Chaumont and Cheverny, and west of Tours, Villandry, Ussé, Azay-le-Rideau..

Wine tasting is available at our neighbours Chai and in all the local wine regions, a visit to Vouvray, Montlouis, Chinon, Saumur and now the motorway access is so much more accessible Sancerre, Pouilly is only a 2 hour drive via the wonderful historic city of Bourges.

Getting around

Ideally you need to hire a car as you will want to visit the castles which are in all directions and from 2 miles to 50 miles away. It is possible to manage using our bikes - we have many bikes for you to use.

House rules

We have no age limit, but bedrooms are upstairs; there is an upstairs bathroom and a downstairs one. We can mange two children and have good play facilities in the garden. No parties please.

“Perfect peaceful and charming French cottage”

We were three friends from different parts of the world meeting in the Loire Valley for a vacation. Mason Doiseau was the perfect place (and would be if you were a family with children, looking for a romantic hideaway or family and friends vacation too). Ann Palmer, who is the owner, sent wonderfully detailed information about the house, directions for driving, ideas for days out, details of local markets, restaurants, wineries and more. A one woman tourist office! We could not have been happier there. The house is at the edge of a small village so is peaceful yet close enough to walk in to the boulangerie for the morning croissants. It has been tastefully decorated and has plenty of space for two couples or a couple and three children or at a squeeze even two couples and a couple of children too. All variables because of variety of beds and cots. The dining room and sitting room were very comfortable for us - and lots of indoor pursuits available and we needed these because the weather was English to the extreme. But rain could not daunt our spirits. We will definitely go for a return visit sometime and hope for sunshine so we can do all the things we had in mind - cycling through the vineyards, strolling the country roads, dining in the courtyard and enjoying all the flowers in the garden; most of which we did accomplish just in rain capes! The house is extremely well provisioned and there is tea and coffee and sugar etc left over (we replaced it all) so it was just great to arrive and be able to have that oh so necessary cup of tea on arrival. Because there are three cottages of varying sizes it would be a perfect place for a family/friend reunion as I think it could accommodate about 12 or 14 people. The garden is shared and was not a problem for us at all as the family in the adjoining house were great fun but I suppose if there was a party crowd in one house and a house with small children in another it could possibly be a slight problem but it would not put me off at all. we really loved it there - the quintessential French farmhouse but with all modern conveniences of course.Thanks to Ann for making Maison Doiseau such a lovely place and sharing what is obviously a family home with us.

Owner's reply: Thank you for such a full and complimentary review! It is lovely in Vrigny, we go ourselves quite a lot and are so happy for our guests to enjoy our lovely cottages as much as we do. There are three cottages next door to each other and they would be great for several families / friends to come together. We are located centrally in the Loire Valley so within half an hour's drive of the main chateaux and vineyards. Our local chateau is Chenonceau just 4 minutes by car; our local viticulteur M Lacour makes great sauvignon and gamay and will willingly show you around!

Owners are very obliging. Appliances are of excellent quality, well equipped kitchen. Log burning stove was splendid, warmed the whole place. Good walks, lovely countryside, excellent wines and good restaurants nearby. Especially the Bon Labourer in Chennonceaux. All in all a truly wonderful time was had by all the family.
