The lovely historic farmhouse is situated in the hamlet of Vrigny in St Georges sur Cher just 4 minutes drive from Chenonceau and in the heart of the Touraine vineyards. It provides rental accommodation for two couples or a family, centrally located for Loire Valley castles and river walks the cottage is large enough for two families or 2-3 couples. The cottage is fully equipped with gourmet kitchen, large living room with open log fire, utility room, 2 en suite double bedrooms and a childrens / twin bedroom. We have 2 cots and and baby equipment. There is a safe, large enclosed garden and outdoors dining area with BBQ. A short stroll to the vineyards and river, local wine growers (vignerons) often pass and wave from the tractors. We have bikes on site and great off road cycling all around. Our cottages are situated in the heart of chateau country in the Loire Valley. We are well placed for visiting these wonderful historic castles; favourites include Chenonceau (just a 2 mile drive or cycle ride), Amboise, Blois, Chambord, Chaumont and Cheverny, and west of Tours, Villandry, Ussé, Azay-le-Rideau.. Wine tasting is available in all the local wine regions, a visit to Vouvray, Montlouis, Chinon, Saumur and now the motorway access is so much more accessible Sancerre, Pouilly is a 2 hour drive (but a nice and smooth ride).

“Property not suitable for 6 adults/3 couples”
The house is made up of two parts of a building and has 2 staircases to the top level bedrooms. The house is not really suitable for 6 adults/3couples. One bedroom is a loft and open to the living room downstairs and outside. This bedroom has an ensuite. The other bedroom with a double bed can only be accessed through a bathroom so that if another person is using the bathroom the person/people using this bedroom are trapped inside until the person in the bathroom is finished. The 3rd bedroom is dark, has low ceilings and 2 small beds so is most suitable for children. There is a third bathroom downstairs which could be used rather than the one upstairs. Downstairs living and kitchen areas were acceptable as was the outside casual dining area.
Owner's reply: Dear Barbara Thank you for your comments; as you say the bathroom is really en suite with the double bedroom and the people using the twin room would nornally use the downstairs bathroom; we do have two toilets downstairs so in all there are four. The house is ideal for a family with children using the twin room. The house is very old and quaint and in our part of France it is common for the bedrooms to be in the loft, we did this to enable us to have as much accommodation as possible and this cottage is our only three bedroom one. On the plus side we are in a wonderful location with vineyard and river walks and a short drive to the most visited chateau in the Loire Valley.
“Fantastic holiday, beautiful location, very relaxing.”
I stayed at Mailson de la Grandmere in August with my husband, 2 year old son and parents-in-law. We had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing holiday. This spacious cottage with a large living room, bedrooms and kitchen/dining areas, is one of 3. The other 2 are slightly smaller so suitable for smaller groups or couples. It was lovely to be able to dine outside in the courtyard, and as the weather was excellent we did so most evenings. The cottage is perfectly located so that it is easy to cycle through vineyards into nearby villages for croissants, or down to the river Cher. (Bicycles are included in the let). Also short drive from supermarkets. The cottage is within walking/cycling distance (for people who like walking/cycling) of the beautiful Chateau Chenonceau - a highly recommended day out. We also had a lovly time swimming in the river at nearby towns St Aignan and Montrichard. The cottage has a good sized shared garden which was ideal for our 2 year old to play in. There were various toys available in the garage, and hose pipe to fill a paddling pool. An all round fun and relaxing french holiday, perfect for families, groups or people who are looking for a quiet french retreat. Note: If you are planning to cycle with infants/toddlers you will need to hire/bring/buy a bicycle child seat or equivalent.
Owner's reply: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage. It is a great place for a family as well as two couples, the third bedroom is really intended for children. We are child friendly, the garden is secure and safe for youngsters. The cottage is well equipped including dish washer and washing machine, tumble drier and a new fridge freezer. We hope you will let your friends know about us and to see you again soon.
“very spacey, beautiful garden, just perfect”
We spent one week at maison de la grand-mere and really enjoyed it. The set of directions we received upfront was very helpful in finding shops and choosing restaurants.
Owner's reply: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage. It is a good sized cottage with three bedrooms, two en suite, and a children's room. we are close to the vineyards, so great for walking or cycling, bikes are supplied, and we are within easy reach of the lovely chateau at Chenonceau. Please let your friends know about us, and we look forward to welcoming you again.
“Glorious Cottage "Maison la Grandmere"”
Cottage is even more lovely in person! We could not believe the size and updates. There were an over abundance of bathrooms and plenty of privacy and lounging space. What a relaxing outdoor space to come to after a hard days work of sightseeing. We were 3 adults and 3 teenage boys and everyone was delighted! Very centrally located to all the sights. The list of sights, markets and restaurants was invaluable.
Owner's reply: We are delighted you have enjoyed our lovely cottage so much. We are on the edge of a little village just 4 minutes drive from Chenonceau the most famous chateau in the Loire Valley, there are lovely walks and bikes rides on the doorstep and a large garden to enjoy. Many thanks, hope to see you again - Ann
“Best holiday cottage we've stayed in so far in France”
Loved the cottage. Particularly impressed by the comfy beds clean sheets sumptuous duvets. Kitchen excellent living room spacious, lots of beds so we'll bring friends next time. Didn't get much chance to use garden due to it being January but think it would be great in summer. Nothing bad to say about the place!
Owner's reply: Thank you Meeta we are so pleased you have enjoyed your stay. We have really lovely beds with good quality mattresses and duvets, white linen and towels. We also provide synthetic bedding for anyone allergic to feathers. There is a really big garden so great for children; also we are close to the vineyards with good walks and cycle rides, we provide bikes and many of our guests use these; we are within cycle ride of Chenonceaux. Lovely in summer but great the rest of the year too as the chateaux are open all the year round.
“Great week in St Georges sur Cher at Cottage Grandmere”
My husband, University aged daughter and I spent a week at Cottage Grandmere in May. It is a great location- in the village of St George sur Cher, 1.4km walk to the village centre, where one can buy all the essentials but also only 5km drive to Mont Richard, which has a large supermarket on the outskirts and several good restaurants in the centre. Its easy to park along the river and then walk 2 minutes in to the restaurants. On arrival, we were late but the local grocer who was closing his doors, opened up for us to get some essentials- everyone is very friendly. We were at the patisserie every morning to pick up croissant for breakfast (except Monday they are closed). The cottage has been very nicely renovated, it is charming and very comfortable, and has a very good kitchen that has everything you can think of. The nights were a bit chilly, but the electric heaters warmed up the sitting area quickly. The cottage is quite spacious- it could easily accommodate a large family or two couples and a couple of children. The cottage also comes equipped with a good selection of bicycles in excellent condition and we had a very enjoyable bike ride to Chenonceau- it was easy to find the way. We think Chennonceau is the nicest castle in the Loire Valley. It was an easy ride of just a few kilometres. Grandmere is an ideal location for day trips by car - everything is very close- and we particularly enjoyed Chateau Villandry with its spectacular gardens, Amboise and the nearby Clos de Luce with its exhibition of Da Vinci inventions were also very nice.. At Chambord we had a very nice lunch in the grounds of the castle- surprisingly good value at 10.50 Euro for a Quiche, drink and dessert- eating in the courtyard of the castle was very nice. We also very much liked Chaumont sur Loir a show case for artists and a rather quirky display of art gardens -that are based on an international competition. We didn't run out of things to do in our one week stay. We cooked several meals during the week but also tried several restaurants- we particularly liked Le Tuffeaux in Mont Richard-we went our first and our last night. We also liked the restaurant in an auberge in Blourre- forgotten the name- run by Dutch family. A bit more expensive, but a nice treat with very pleasant service.
Owner's reply: So pleased you have enjoyed your stay in our lovely cottage. Maison de la Grandmere has two large en suite bedrooms and a twin which is mainly for children but can provide a third double bed. I should add the garden is child friendly and secure. Great to hear you were so well looked after by our local shops; we are also only 4 minutes drive from Chenonceau which is really lovely, and has a great restaurant for lunchtimes. Please tell your friends about us!
