Description from owner

Description

La Boissiere, situated in the heart of the Dordogne, was once a fortified medieval village but is now a tranquil hamlet perched high up on a hillside in the Valley of the Chateaux overlooking the Dordogne River. This quiet rural setting is home to our three charming period Gites, one of which is "La Boulangerie".

Our large, fully enclosed garden includes a fenced and alarmed 16m x 6m swimming pool with an additional shallow pool for children.

Within easy reach of many of the historic Bastide towns, local shops, restaurants and a myriad of activities, La Boissiere is within 50 minutes drive of Bergerac Airport and 8 hours easy drive from Calais.

The Dordogne region

The Perigord Noir surprises and delights all the senses. The most abundant and scenic of all the regions within the Department of Dordogne, it acquired its name from the dense oak forests that abound in the district. This rich area tempted early man , judging by the great number of pre-historic sites that have been discovered, and offers the tourist today a landscape diverse and vibrant alongside striking chateaux, castles, Romanesque churches and Bastide towns. Here visitors can be busy doing something each day or relaxing doing nothing but enjoying magnificent views; the Perigord Noir lends itself to both. Close to wine country, fine wine and superb French cuisine await the discerning palette and for the more active, countless water and land-based activities are readily accessible.

Aquitaine/Dordogne

Saint Cyprien is situated on the hillside above the River Dordogne and makes a perfect centre for visiting the fabulous caves, beautiful villages and lovely scenery for which this section of the Dordogne is famous, as well as experiencing the myriad of river-based activities. Saint Cyprien is a beautiful old town that winds uphill towards the 12th century belltower and the abbey which dominate the town. The real treat of St Cyprien is behind the Rue Gambetta, it is here that the old town starts. Behind the Tourist Office is the Place de la Liberte. From here head up the Rue du Terme. This is a steep street leading up towards the abbey. There is a stately 18th century Chartreuse (a Perigordian mansion house) here which was built for the chief officer of the French Royal Navy. There are some other wonderful buildings neighbouring the Chartreuse.
