Location description from owner
The Dordogne region
The beautiful Dordogne plays host to a number of gorgeous villages. As you drive around the region you will come across quaint, cute, picture perfect villages at every turn. At the very top of this list are a number of villages that have received the prestigious classification as French 'beautiful village'. "Les plus beaux villages de France" There are 152 "Les plus beaux villages de France" ten of which are found in the Dordogne - more than any other department in France. There are also a number of beautiful villages in the nearby Lot.Markets are an important part of daily life in France, it is a chance for locals to meet and exchange gossip and to buy the best possible produce available. If you are in France during cherry or strawberry season - buy some. They will be the best fruit you have ever eaten! The Dordogne is renowned for duck and goose products, walnuts and Rocamadour cheese which is produced nearby. When shopping in markets in the Dordogne pick up some confit de canard to cook when you get back to our holiday gite. Or if you are a wine lover, Bergerac vineyards cover 13.000 hectares on 93 villages. The blend and the choice of the vine constitute the Bergerac wine's prestige and bouquet. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec (Cot) are used for the reds and Sauvignon, Sémillon, Muscadelle for the whites.
The village of Saint Capraise lies between Bergerac and Eymet. The village is very tranquil, with few passing cars and the occasional tractor. Situated just a short frive from Bergerac airport, a car will be an important neccesity. The villages of Eymet, Issigeac, Monbazillac, Beaumont, Castillones, Miramont and Villareal are all within easy driving distance providing picturesque settings to enjoy a stroll, shopping at the markets or just enjoy a cup of coffee. During July/August many of these lovely places host night markets, where you will find some interesting craft shopping, retail therapy and delicious food and wine to enjoy whilst sitting in the market squares. The food varies from fresh oysters, moules frite, grilled chicken and meats, pizza and a variety of salads and fruit. It just the loveliest way to meet local people and enjoy eating under the evening sun.Eymet is a delightful, medieval village just 12 minutes away. It is lovely to wonder round the cobbled streets, enjoy the picturesque architecture, plus the Thursday morning market. In Eymet, there is a variety of dining options with an ever popular Pizza restaurant, Bistro, Creperie and coffee bars.A wander through the park, by the river is a very enjoyable experience. The park hosts regular Brocantes where an abundance of items are on offer. Magnificent flower beds adorn the town of Bergerac (which won 'four flowers' at the Best Decorated Towns and Villages competition) but, far from being simply a pretty 'picture' town, Bergerac lives and thrives thanks to its legendary local gastronomy, regional wines, multitude of activities, flourishing markets, antique fairs and pedestrian walkways. There is an abundance of dining options in Bergerac for either lunch or dinner. The renovated old town has been restored to its former beauty and a pleasurable afternoon can be spent simply strolling its streets and relaxing in its shady squares while admiring the museums and restored buildings. On Saturdays there is a huge market set up in the centre of the town around the cathedral. Wednesdays hosts a smaller Organic market.

- Very Good
“Can't fault it, wonderful holiday!”
It's a great house with a beautiful garden and huge pool. The location is ideal for Bastide towns, markets and wine and the hosts, Wendy and Rob were lovely (any more of that rhubarb left?!) We can't rate the place highly enough, hope to be back again soon.
Thank you so much for your review. Delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and will be sure to have more rhubarb prepared for your next visit. Best wishes, Wendy, Rob, Robyn and Josh
“Séjour très agréable”
La maison est confortable et bien située au coeur du circuit des bastides du Périgord. L'accueil est chaleureux et les propriétaires très attentionnés. L'environnement rural est magnifique. Un petit inconvénient: l'accès à internet problématique à la campagne.
