Description from owner

Description

For rent in France in the Haute Vienne, Limousin, an original signal house for lovers of the French countryside. In the village St Brice sur Vienne (16 miles from Limoges and a 20-minute drive to Limoges airport), you'll find our former railroad house. It is surrounded by woodland and is a 1-minute stroll from the River Vienne, a tributary of the River Loire.

The signal house is privately owned and furnished to the taste of the artist owners. It can accommodate 4 people in 2 bedrooms, and we do have another small folding single bed available for a small 5th person.

It has a spacious kitchen dining room with cooking facilities and a wood burner. sofa, armchairs, table and 6 chairs.

Also on the ground floor is a large bedroom with 2 single beds, a wardrobe and a new walk-in shower room with washbasin and heated towel rail.

There is a second toilet downstairs.

Upstairs is a bathroom with a shower, toilet and wash-basin.

There is a large double bed and a table, chairs and a large wardrobe.

In winter the wood burner and electric heaters keep you warm and snug. In the height of summer, the house remains cool and comfortable thanks to the shutters and thick stone walls.

The house no longer functions as a signal house. La Barrière (rail crossing) next door is automatic. There is a small local train passing by a few times a day that stops in the village, but you get used to this very quickly. There are trains from the village to Limoges, Angouleme and one stop to the local town of St Junien. You can pay on the train if boarding at St Brice. From a station with a ticket office, you must buy your ticket at the station.

There is a bakery, chemist and restaurant bar-tabac a few minutes walk from the house. The house is just outside the Northern boarder of the stunning Périgord Limousin Natural Regional Park which stretches from the River Vienne, down to the Dordogne in the south of the park. There are stunning walks, cycle rides and drives in the surrounding area and kayaking available nearby. If you have a car, you will find yourself on one of the hundreds of country roads that wind through the area. Old stone bridges bring you over numerous little streams that cross your path. The local roads are well engineered and there is very little traffic. Woodland and small meadows are home to rich wildlife and beautiful Limousin cows. The sleepy villages that you will encounter on your way are not yet deluged with tourists, so expect to speak French in what is truly authentic French countryside.
