Description

Le Potager

Bienvenue and welcome to our beautifully restored lavender farm with pool in the heart of Provence.

This tastefully restored 18th century farmhouse is situated on a ten-hectare property in the middle of the protected 'Parc regional du Luberon'. The romantic single-story stone cottage lies next to a flower and vegetable garden, which is why we call it 'Le Potager', where you can pick your own fresh herbs, tomatoes and cut flowers. This serene retreat is only three kilometres away from the medieval hilltop village of Saignon. Many other charming villages are scattered throughout the national park and big cities such as Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Marseille are only an hour's drive away.

The house exudes Provençal charm and is tastefully furnished and equipped with all modern amenities needed for a relaxing holiday. The house can host two people. The bedroom leads to a bathroom with WC, hand basin, and shower/bathtub. Arched

Arched French doors lead to summer dining terrace.

A large pool (12m×5.5m), which is shared with two other houses, is nestled in a lovely garden and overlooks the lavender fields and boasts stunning views. There is nothing better to sit by the pool with a glass of wine and watch the spectacular sunset over the lavender fields and the Mont Ventoux (it is breath-taking, we promise!).

Endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits and little trips present themselves in the immediate surroundings. Visit the nearby villages Bonnieux, Gordes or Lacostes, where you can find art collectives, castles and nice French cafes. For culture enthusiasts the Luberon offers endless festivals. Every day you can find a market an abundance of fresh foods, truffle (in December and January), freshly pressed olive oil and other delicacies. Outdoor activities include hiking, bike riding, horseback riding and canoeing. If you just want to relax the garden offers a peaceful atmosphere. Otherwise visit one of the many good restaurants, which contribute to the region's unique fame and appeal.

The Luberon is worth a visit all year round: Starting with delicious truffles in winter, the cherry blossom in spring, sunny hikes and lavender blossom in June and July, summer feelings by the pool until early October and the most wonderful autumn lights at sunny and warm 22 degrees until November.

Amenities of the house include:

A dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge and freezer, washing machine, dining table and chairs, recipe books provided, fireplace, armchairs, extremely comfortable sofa bed that sleeps 2, TV with DVD player, CD player, selection of board games, music, films and books. French doors lead out to flower garden. Outside in the garden and on a terrace are a dining table, chairs and a BBQ.

The Luberon region

Saignon

Luberon - Provence at its best

Surrounding Le Domaine des Claparedes you will discover a spectacular countryside of vine¬yards and orchards, medieval hilltop villages and the atmospheric light of Van Gogh.

Picturesque villages are scattered all throughout the Luberon. Among the better known are Bonnieux, Lacoste, Gordes and Lourmarin, which host art collectives, narrow streets, cafes and stunning sceneries. Visit the famous ochre rocks in Roussillon, which give the region's houses its typical red colour.

Less known villages such as Saignon, which is only three kilometres away, invite you to explore the Provence off the beaten tracks. We recommend a stroll around the old town, stop at the 12th century church, enjoy the breath-taking sceneries on top of the rocks, followed by a café, some delicious baguette and cakes and some people watching on the leafy terrace of Chez Christine's bakery.

For those who seek out bigger cities, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence are 45 minutes away, while beachfront cities Marseille and beautiful Cassis will take around 70 minutes.

Culture enthusiast will be thrilled to hear there are plenty art festivals in the Luberon ranging from music, to film and foods. The Festival du Piano in La Roque d'Antheron hosts some of the world's best piano players who entertain their guests with some world class performances in a lush garden next to a Castle in July and August. The celebrated African Cinema Festival opens its gates in November, a Jazz festival takes place in June and the classical music festival Les Musicales du Luberon in August. Museums we recommend include the African exhibition at Fondation Blachère, the fantastic light projections of Van Gogh in the Carrière de Lumières in Les Beaux and the spectacular lustres factory Lustrerie Mathieu in Gargas.

People who know the region will know that cherries, tomatoes, truffles and olive oil just taste so much better in this area. There is a village market with excellent fresh local produce every day of the week: Monday: Lauris, Cavaillon; Tuesday: Cucuron, Lacoste; Wednesday: Pertuis; Thursday: Menerbes; Friday: Bonnieux, Lourmarin; Saturday: Apt; Sunday: Isle-sur-la Sorgue. We particularly recommend the market in Apt, where more than 300 producers offer their delicacies. Otherwise visit one of the many good restaurants in the region, which contribute to the region's unique fame and appeal.

A myriad of wineries invite you to try and buy some divine locals wines. For great wines, head towards Avignon and the Rhone wine trail. Some vineyards also provide wine tastings and tours in English.

Endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits and little trips present themselves in the immediate sur¬roundings. Outdoor activities include hiking, bike riding, horseback riding and canoeing.
