The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The richest part of France for flora and fauna - coastal and mountain
Prades - Sahorre. B&B, gîte, and studios to rent in the Conflent, PO
For long or short holidays, Beau Vallon offers a choice of accommodation (chambres d'hôtes, self-contained studios and a gîte) in the Conflent region of the Pyrénées Orientales 15km south west of Prades. At Beau Vallon you will be near enough to the main centres to enjoy the festivals, markets and local shops, but away from the holiday crowds, the traffic and high temperatures of the plains. Situated on the edge of the Cerdagne, 1h30mins from Andorra and 1 hour from the Mediterranean. Ideal for groups!
Beau Vallon, a rural location on the border of 2 national parks, offers you the tranquillity of the Pyrénéan mountains, fresh unpolluted air and lovely gardens in which to relax. The Vallée de la Rotja, through which runs the river de la Rotja well known for wild trout fishing, is known as the 'Vallée Gourmande' - famous for cheeses, honey, safron, spirulina, charcuterie, apple juice and delicious apples.
Situated in the heart of excellent walking country, with great cycling opportunities (both road and off-road), as well as music festivals, fêtes of all kinds and historical centers to visit. And for snow lovers, we're only 50 minutes from a selection of some of the best ski resorts in the French Pyrenees.
Take a birds-eye view, or a helicopter trip, and you will find you are on the edge of amazing panorama of rolling hills and mountains, a wilderness occupied by wild flora and fauna interspersed by stone shelters built by shepherds long past. Trace the terraces, small and flat, carved out of the hillside to graze sheep and cattle. 250 kilometres of paths and tracks allow you to explore the natural forests. Starting at the mouth of the valley, populated by a semi-urban community, you will find the sides of the valley closing in, while graduating southwards and upwards into the higher reaches of an agricultural community. The high valley is populated by a variety of artisans and agricultural producers of irresistable products. It is an old land, timeless, hidden in the forests you will find the vestiges of buildings, walls and chateaux long past their prime.
You will not find many supermarkets, clothing stores or video outlets - in fact none. This is a place that you come to, to commune with nature, dine of the many gourmet products and chill-out.
