Functioning as a polis (city-state), Issa has managed to preserve its independence until the first century BC, when it became part of the Roman Empire.

The Dalmatia region

From about 1250 the islands, about 1248, built of limestone, white stone, which was formedby deposition of shells of tiny creatures at the bottom of the pram Tethys.

It happened in the Mesozoic, during 150 million years, while on Earth born, ruled, and the dinosaursdisappeared. The thickness of the lime present in some places exceeds three miles.
