The apartment is furnished to a high standard – with lots of attention to detail to ensure you enjoy a very comfortable & refreshing stay. It has been awarded a 4 star rating by Visit Scotland and I'm delighted to have lots of great Trip Advisor reviews from past guests. It has uninterupted, open views to Calton Hill and its eclectic collection of monuments – and also another spectacular view up the Royal Mile, with Canongate Kirk & its cherry trees in the foreground. Visitors say you feel you are experiencing Edinburgh without even leaving the apartment! The property has real Scandinavian oak flooring in the hallway and living area – and carpets in the bedrooms. The furnishing is of a high quality contemporary style – with a few antique twists! We hope our guests will enjoy the design features and art in the flat. A very welcoming & comfortable space for a couple, two singles, a family of up to 4 or alternatively, someone happy to chill out on their own!

There's a lovely, bright open plan (L-shaped) lounge, dining area & kitchen with 3 large windows giving the fabulous views mentioned above. The lounge has a flat screen TV; a DVD player (with some DVDs for your enjoyment); and a hi-fi with digital radio, CD player and bluetooth connection. There's a phone on which you can make free UK landline calls (use a calling card available from the shop next door to make international calls) and free wi-fi access. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything we think you will need, including a full sized dishwasher.

There is a good sized double bedroom (with a king size bed) and a smaller one that can be set up with either 1 or 2 beds. One of the beds is a “small single” so best suited for a small adult or child. To be sure you have a good night's sleep in the centre of the city, we have installed secondary glazing in the bedrooms – it creates a wonderful sense of calm. Hairdryers are provided so you won't need to pack these. The modern bathroom has both a bath and a shower – and also a dual voltage shaving socket. Guests are welcome to use the separate utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer (washing powder provided).

Prices are fully inclusive of bedlinen, towels, soap, gas, electricity and taxes. There is a welcome pack provided with tea, coffee and a few other food/drink items for your convenience.

Dunbars Close Garden, set out in 17th century style, adjoins the property and provides both a beautiful tranquil spot to relax in and also contributes to the fantastic outlook from the kitchen and dining area windows.

The flat is on the 3rd floor of a traditional stone built property. There's no lift but the climb is worth it when you see the views!

Certainly, Edinburgh has a huge amount to offer the visitor - both in the city itself and within easy travelling distance There's beaches, quaint fishing villages, boat trips, open hills and castles & churches galore, within easy bus or train access, for a day away from the city. There's suggestions for daytrips in the Welcome Pack in the apartment.

Of course, within Edinburgh itself there's a huge variety of cultural / fun / active / historic experiences to enjoy - festivals, shops, galleries, museums, cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, theatres, cinemas, live music venues, hills, parks, tourist attractions & guided walks... and more!

Royal Mile

There are numerous attractions (including many free options) within less than 5 minutes of the apartment's front door - including the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace (the Queen's official residence in Scotland), The Museum of Edinburgh, The Scottish Storytellers Centre and the magnicent wild, rugged hillsides of Salisbury Crags & Arthurs Seat (to name just a few!). Edinburgh Castle is just a 20 minute walk up the historic Royal Mile (tho' with many distractions en route!) and there are loads of fantastic restaurants, bars and shops in the immediate area. Princes Street is 10 minutes away, so you can see that the apartment is very well situated for full enjoyment of all that Edinburgh has to offer.

We have a wonderful three nights in Dunbars Close and loved it. The location was perfect for us; both for touring the city and day to day convenience, with the coffee shop opposite, fab fish and chip shop just a few shops away and a little passageway that lead straight through to Arthur's Seat, Pizza Express,Tescos and the parliament building. The apartment had everything we needed and the views around were great....the little courtyard garden below worth a visit too...My daughter and I didn't mind the steps up to the flat but my Mum did find that the only downside of being high up! We spent quite a bit of time discussing how much we wanted to come back next year and how we would choose the same apartment again.

"Great Location and everything to hand."

Stayed in Marys apartment 7-9 December 2012. The location of the apartment was brilliant - 5 mins walk from the Royal Mile and approx 10 mins to Princess Street. Really suited us all especially with 2 young children who didnt complain once about the distance to the attractions. Apartment was clean, tidy and had everything you could possibly need for an stay in Edinburgh. The bottle of wine & shortbread was lovely - thankyou. Mary was very kind and courteous in allowing us not only to avail of the apartment a few hours earlier than normal but also leave a few hours later than normal - for which we really appreciated. It saved us carrying our luggage for hours. Mary was on hand on the day to show us around the apartment and explain everything to us. Her recommendations for a light lunch - 'Sugar Sandwich' was really welcomed. Loved the pasta salad and sandwiches!! Communication from Mary throughout the booking process was brilliant, always responded to emails within a matter of minutes, and nothing was to much bother. All in all a great place to stay. Great views, quiet area and great location. Thankyou Mary for everything. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Chris, Michelle, Josh & Ben

"Perfect location for our weekend trip to Edinburg"

Dunbar's Close was the perfect fit for our weekend trip to Edinburgh. Located right on the Holyrood Palace end of the Royal Mile it was wonderful to be able to walk to all of the sights right from our doorstep. This was a great location for the kids because we could go out and sight see then come home and take a breather then go back out again in the evening. This apartment, as Mary advertises correctly, is not for those with limited mobility. It was located up three flights of stairs and there is no lift. This is what makes the view so amazing. Also, as she advertises, there is limited parking near the apartment. We were lucky enough to find a meter nearby but she does provide you with a list of some acceptable parking that is a short walk away. This property is best used for local sight seeing and if need be there are plenty of buses that can take you around town. Mary was wonderful and so accomodating. She really helped to make our first visit to Edinburgh special. We would highly recommend this apartment and will most likely be calling Mary to use this apartment on all our trips to Edinburgh.

"Convenient & Comfortable"

Mary has done a fantastic job furnishing this place (real furniture, art & rugs) and anticipating the needs of her guests (milk, coffee, wine, biscuits and great suggestions for touring, including a very reliable dining review book). There were four of us and, while it was a little reminiscent of college in the mornings with only 1 bathroom, we found the place to be extremely comfortable as a home base for exploring Edinburgh and its surroundings. Also, we couldn't have asked for a better location - right on the Royal Mile but in the quieter stretch in Canongate. We had some warm weather during our stay, and it was lovely to be able to open the huge windows to let in fresh air. The only caveat, you may want to pack lightly since this is a 3rd floor walk-up!

"Brilliant accommodation views and locations!"

Great experience starting with a warm late night welcome from our host, who stayed up especially to meet us and brief us on arrival. Lovely welcome pack of wine, local biscuits and everything you could hope to find in a rental apartment - well equipped kitchen with all the cooking essentials. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, and great attention to detail by our host who had thought of everything a visitor could want, including excellent guide books and local attractions. Then there are the views - amazing views on one side up the Royal Mile across lovely cherry trees in full bloom in the grounds of the neighboring Canongate Kirk. Same window has lovely afternoon sun. At the rear, from the kitchen table there's a lovely view up to Calton Hill and the monumental buildings there. The website gives you only a taste of how good it is. Parliament and Holyrood House Palace are 300 metres away. Couldn't be better.

"Perfect in every way!"

Three of us had the pleasure of staying at Dunbars Close for 4 weeks across February and March 2012. It was truly a wonderful 'home away from home'. Every room was well appointed, comfortable and warm and beautifully clean. Everything worked well, be it the kitchen appliances, the TV/DVD, the wifi, the washer and dryer, and the modern bathroom. The location is fantastic too - stunning views, a stroll up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle and other tourist attractions, really handy to trains and buses, and close to all sort of restaurants, pubs and shops both small and large. Mary made us feel welcome from the moment we made contact until the morning we sadly had to leave! We would not hesitate to stay there again.

So glad you all enjoyed your stay. I miss meeting you in the streets of Edinburgh now that you've returned home!

"A calm oasis in the heart of Edinburgh"

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Dunbars Close. The location was perfect-just off the Royal Mile. The flat looked onto the Royal Mile on one side and a 'secret' garden on the other side which is accessible to the public during the day. The flat had all mod cons and was so comfortable we didn't want to leave! Mary is a really welcoming hostess and was very keen to ensure we had all we needed before leaving us to enjoy our stay. We fully recommend a stay here.
