Description from owner

Description

Privately owned, Sandwood Lodge is a cosy self catering log cabin and is situated at Rowardennan on Loch Lomond in Scotland. It is situated just 50 meters from the waters edge on a quiet, private estate.

Think about clear starry nights away from city traffic, lights and noise against walks wrapped up against fesh and crisp bright winter days. Or in spring and summer take trips away and explore Rob Roy country, The Trossachs or the mountains of Argyll and the north to Oban and perhaps a quick hop on the ferry to the Isle of Mull.

Loch Lomond, which is 23 miles long and 4 miles at its widest point, is certainly one of the worlds, and Scotlands, most stunning and internationally renowned locations.

Sorry - I dont offer 1 night stays. It is 2-3 nights at weekends (and priced for 3) and 7 nights in the main holiday seasons.

Out of main holiday periods I can offer discounts for 2 person occupancy. Please enquire.

NOTE: Internet access available from 2017.

“Stay here!”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2016

Me and my husband just finished our honeymoon at Sandwood Lodge, and we loved it! There is literally EVERYTHING you could possibly need there (the kitchen especially is very well kitted out). There is TV, a choice of DVDs, CDs, a radio, lots of board games and books, and leaflets about things to do around there. Only downside is no wifi, but I imagine that it isn't possible to get good wifi given the location. There is a pub a two minute walk away, which claims to have Wifi, but it is extremely slow! The food at the Rowardennan Pub is really good, the staff are really friendly, it has a really good atmosphere and has a TV. The location of the log cabin is really good, only a minute's walk from Loch Lomind, and it is a really quiet area. It is nice and remote, but without being weirdly remote. It is about a 25 minute drive from Drymen, so not too far, and it is in a complex of lots of log cabins, and there is a hotel and pub nearby, so there is still people around. And Simon and Lesley (the owners) were even kind enough to get us some Prosecco, pack of biscuits, and some tea and sugar! So thank you for that! I could go on, but overall I would 100% recommend a stay here if you are wanting to visit Loch Lomind!

Thanks so much for your lovely review and feedback. And for sure is useful for others thinking of visiting Loch Lomond and our lodge. We are pleased that you found everything needed - except, yes, WiFi. But I am looking into this and hope to have it the next few weeks. Thanks for booking with us.

“Great location! Relaxing stay!”

Reviewed 24 Nov 2014

4 of us stayed at the lodge for the weekend. The lodge was very comfortable and catered to our every need. It was warm and extremely clean. The bedrooms were a good size. Balmaha was only 6 miles down the road and we were able to go there for food. The road is single track, but this was explained to us before we went. We did not tend to meet other cars along the way. The loch is right on your doorstop with plenty walks to be had. The scenery surrounding the area is beautiful and there are many chances to get outdoors! Would definitely go back, probably for longer than a weekend!

Your feedback is very much appreciated and thank you for taking the time to do so - and for leaving our lodge so tidy. Hope you will stay again along with your friends who didn't make it. Simon.

“Everything you need in an amazing lodge in a stunning location!”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2014

The advert suggests that there is everything that you need for your stay, and it's not wrong. I was a little hesitant that it would be as lovely as the photos and description, but it excelled in every way. The Loch is a great place for jet skiing, with little islands to explore and it was so easy to launch from the slipway and storage was on the beach. The rooms are all well kept, and there is enough room for two couples with an extra room for two children. The "duck mafia" kept us entertained for the week, hunting us out at breakfast time for breadcrumbs. If you are looking for a relaxing week with either nothing to do, or lots to do - this is the place to go!

Wow - thank you for such lovely feedback from your week at our lodge on Loch Lomond. Great to know your jet skiing worked out well and that you enjoyed your stay. We will be happy to have you back as you suggested when we were in touch afterwards.

“Faultless Holiday”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2014

We are a small group of friends in our late 20's/early 30's, who struggled to find anywhere that would accept none-family groups. Simon was more than happy to give us the benefit of the doubt and accept our booking. Arrival - Simon sent a very detailed set of instructions which covered everything from directions, getting the lodge keys, heating, waste disposal, departure etc. On arrival everything was spotless, yet very homely. We settled in quickly, particularly with the help of the complimentary wine and biscuits. The lodge - was very spacious, and provided us with everything we needed for our stay. In particular pots, pans, plates, cutlery, bbq, bed linen, towels etc. There was even a nice selection of books, dvds and videos for those rainy evenings. The washing machine and dryer came in very handy after our daily excursions. The lodge sits within the middle of the site, less than 50m from the Loch Lomond shore, and surrounded by other lodges, which were mostly empty during our stay. The shore has a pier with boats moored up around it, so if you have a boat this area is ideal. Locations/Amenities - The nearest town/village was Balmaha, about 6miles south of the site, and the slightly larger town of Drymen was only a further 4 miles away which we used to buy bread/milk and other necessities from Spar. Balmaha has a nice harbour which you can rent rowing/motor boats, canoes, kayaks etc and also buy tickets for boat tours across the Loch. The Tourist Information Centre is also located here. The road leading up to the site runs alongside the West Highland Way, which was very popular with walkers from all over the world. There is the odd pub/camp site located along the way, including the Rowardennan Hotel and The Clansman Pub. The path up to Ben Lomond starts from the car park just past the hotel, but make sure you don't accidentally take the hard route, like we did. Dislikes - There are very few dislikes, the biggest being the TV reception was quite poor, but we weren't too concerned as we spent most of our time out of the lodge, and watched films in the evening. There is also no wifi and 3G is almost none existent in the area. I am already recommending this lodge to my friends and family. An easy 5 stars from me.

Your heading says it all and so I appreciate that. We were in touch after your stay in Scotland at my lodge and thank you again for your kind feedback.

“Excellent lodge accomodation in a beautiful Loch side location”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2014

My husband and I spent a very enjoyable stay here in this lovely lodge with our two children, The accomodation was spacious, tastefully decorated throughout and very well equipped. It was also spotless! Simon, the owner of the property was very helpful in planning our holiday and welcomed us with a bottle of wine and biscuits! If you are looking for a peaceful get away from it all holiday this is ideal. There is good access to the water and many local walks including the challenge of climbing Ben Lomond which is Scotland's most southerly Munroe. We would be very happy to return for another stay here.

It's great to know you enjoyed your stay on the shores of Loch Lomond and that my lodge made for a comfortable base for your holiday. Thanks very much for taking the time to pass on your feedback.

“Peaceful Retreat on Loch Lomondside”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2014

Wonderful, peaceful lochside accommodation in Lodge. It's a very comfortable place to relax in after a busy day doing all sorts of outdoor activities. It was home from home, all mod cons with a fantastic view! Simon, the owner, was very welcoming, leaving us a bottle of wine and chocolate biscuits!! Will definitely come back.

Thanks for taking time to pass on your comments after your stay at my lodge by Loch Lomond. Always great to hear that visitors have enjoyed their stay and have been able to experience the area and loch. Thank you.

“Our 5th visit and it gets better every time”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2014

The standard of the lodge is exceptional. Clean, bright, well equiped and in a lovely location. This is our 5th visit over the last 7 years and the standard of the lodge has not changed once in all that time - it is like new. If you are looking for somewhere to chill out but explore the outdoors this is the place to beat.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give me your feedback - so much appreciated. And thank you too for another visit to my log cabin here at Rowardennan on Loch Lomond. As I have said before to previous reviews, I only wish we got up more to stay ourselves.

“Highly Recommend”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2014

Stayed here for 4 nights from 31/12/13 to 4/1/14 we were 3 couples, the Lodge was a great size for us we could not fault it. It is in a very good location on the banks of Loch Lomond, they even left us a bottle of wine and a very nice tin of biscuits which we thought was a very nice touch. Would not think twice about staying here again and would highly recommend it.

Thank you for booking my lodge on Loch Lomond for New Year. Pleased the hear you enjoyed your stay - I know the weather was not great. But it's nice to walk from door and then come back to a cosy log cabin and snuggle in for the evening.

“Relaxing home from home”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2013

We had a great week in this lodge. The lodge was exactly how it was described on the web site. Spacious and well equipped. We stayed there with my son and 8 year old grandson. The proximity to the loch was even better than we expected. There is much to do round about and we would recommend the boat trips. The Oak Tree Inn at Balmaha was good for for eating out. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely holiday home and we will recommend to family and friends

Taking time to review your stay at Sandwood Lodge is much appreciated and to know that you had a great week there at this lovely spot on Loch Lomond. Thank you very much.
