Location description from owner

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region

Burgundy may well be renowned for its wine – with villages such as Chablis and Nuits-St-Georges known throughout the world – but rural Burgundy has a great deal more to offer. Renaissance chateaux, medieval abbeys and fortified villages all stand testimony to the colourful history of this lesser-known region of France. Dijon is the beautiful capital of Burgundy and is a must see.

The Morvan Park in Burgundy is an area with pretty hilltop villages& historic towns, basilicas, abbeys and spectacular castles and fortresses. The landscape is hills, forests, valleys, lakes and rivers, somewhere to clear your head walking, cycling & boating, perfect for families. The folk are very welcoming and you will leave it loving it!

Rouvray

Les Chenes lies on the edge of Rouvray in the Cote d'Or. It is a busy, well equipped village with an award winning bakery, shops and restaurants. It is just a short drive from the historic towns of Avallon, and Saulieu. Places on the must visit list include the mediaeval towns of Semur en Auxois, Noyers sur Serein and Flavigny sur Ozerain(the location for film Chocolat). Dijon is the capital and is one of the regions greatest places to visit, where the Dukes of Burgundy spent a fortune beautifying this great city. For wine enthusiasts Chablis and Irancy lie to the north and the 'Route des Grands Crus' to the south. For the young and energetic there are many sports, boating, walking, cycling, tree climbing, activity parks, quad biking, paint balling, white water rafting. The Parc de l'Auxois is a local water park, zoo and amusement centre , or visit Guedelon where an army of folk live and are building a fortress using all the original materials, horses and man power.

All local villages have family run brasseries and restaurants serving local pates, cheeses and local dishes such as beef bourgignon. washed down with cold glasses of Chablis or delicate red wines from the region. The people here are very friendly and will happily engage in mixed language conversations!
