Description

Welcome to our lovingly restored holiday cottages. At the end of a quiet lane, nestled on the side of a valley, there is no traffic, no noise and no distractions. Despite these tranquil surroundings, we are still close to all the main site seeing attractions at Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Perigueux, Beynac and Domme. Originally barns, both properties have been recently renovated and are well equipped to provide you with everything you will need for your stay. Newly decorated and furnished, they have a bright and light feel, while still retaining some of the original oak beams and woodwork. But in all honesty, the views are what make this property really special. Sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine on a summers evening, watching the spectacular sunsets over the valley and the chateau, will give you holiday memories to take away and cherish forever.

One of two delightful cottages, sleeps 2, would suit a couple or a family with a young child. Situated on the side of the valley, the views from the terrace overlooking the valley and the chateau are truly beautiful.
The property includes one large double bedroom, with an American king size bed, TV with UK satellite and French channels. A fully equipped open plan kitchen and dining area. Both the living area and the bedroom open out onto a terrace overlooking the valley, where you can sit and enjoy alfresco dining. Originally a barn, the cottage has been recently renovated. Newly decorated and furnished, the cottage is fresh and bright, while still retaining some of its rustic charm with original oak beams and woodwork.
Ideally situated, the cottage is close to all the main site seeing attractions at Sarlat, Les Eyzies, Perigueux, Beynac and Domme but its peaceful location also offers the perfect ‘get away from it' all holiday.

“Totally relaxing”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2016

We enjoyed a great week in this converted barn which was close enough to the main visitors sites in the Dordogne but secluded enough to allow us to relax in the evening as the sun went down over the fields.Karen and Steve were great hosts friendly but not intrusive and we would recommend the accommodation to another couple who enjoy the quiet things in life.

Owner's reply: Thank you for writing about your holiday here. Its lovely to hear that you enjoyed your time with us, seeing the sights and making the most of the peace and quiet. Thanks again. Warmest regards Karen and Steve

“Amazing stay”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2015

Dear Karen Steve and Family ... and of course Scooby Thank you so much for your warm welcome and hospitality, we have had the most amazing stay at Sunset.. Steve really ensured we were able to maximise our short stay (too short, we'll have to come back) His knowledge of the area is far superior than any guide book. Our highlights have been Rouffignac Market, taking Scooby on our morning walks, Beynac and Cazenac, La Roque Gageac boat trip, Sarlat market and the most amazing burger and chips (yes really!!), fresh eggs from the hens, the sunset, Domme beautiful village with incredible views of the Dordogne, St Leon Sur Vezere, picture postcard with amazing pizza restaurant. Rouffignac boucherie, fillet steak to die for, amazing on the BBQ. Why we'll be back: Location, hosts, Scooby, scenery. What we missed out on: Local snack bar on the corner, canoeing, Rocamadour, St Cyprien and LOADS more. Thank you so much!

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review. Its really good to know you enjoyed your time staying here and managed to pack so much into your trip. We know you still have lots you want to do, so hopefully we'll see you both again some time very soon. Thanks again, hugely appreciated. Kindest regards Karen and Steve

“Quiet, Comfortable, Convenient”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2014

We stayed in the "Old Barn" rather than the "Sunset Cottage," but I believe they are rather similar. We had a very pleasant stay. The gite was very comfortable and well-appointed. We had no difficulty getting "settled in. The location is superb - just on the outskirts of a pleasant small town. Country quiet with beautiful stars while close enough to conveniences and handy for exploring the whole Dordogne area - then coming away from the bustle of the tourist areas to a quiet, comfortable retreat. Only a couple of minor inconveniences: The wifi was "dicey" at best, sometimes unavailable at all. Payment was required as international bank transfer which added both inconvenience and expense. All-in-all, a nearly ideal base for a Dordogne vacation.

Owner's reply: Thank you for writing about your stay with us. Its good to know you enjoyed your holiday in our cottage. We have tried over the years to get the wifi working as well as possible, as we know this is important to many people. And finally after lots of different hardware, we have found a system that is now giving us very strong and reliable signal strength in both gites and on the terraces. Finally the technology is doing what it should!! Thanks again for your feedback. Kindest regards Karen and Steve

“GOOD LOCATION”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2014

From the minute of booking Karen and Steve were very helpful and informative. The cottage is right at the end of the lane so is very quiet and peaceful with a lovely view over the fields and towards the chateaux. It is also well placed for visiting many of the attractions of that area.As the weather was a bit damp at times it was lovely to turn on the heaters which quickly made the cottage warm and cosy. There is a carrefore store at the end of the road which stayed open all day which was very handy. There is a local market on Sunday morning in Rouffignac which is worth a look at. St Leon Surn Vezere is a very pretty village to visit.

Owner's reply: Thank you for writing about your stay. We find having full central heating in both cottages a must, as many people decide to visit the area out of season, in the cooler months so need the cottages to be cosy and warm after a day sight seeing. Thank you again for your feedback. Its great to hear you enjoyed your time here, exploring the area. Kindest regards Karen and Steve

“A charming cottage”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2014

We spent a great week in this cozy and well-equipped cottage very centrally located in Dordogne. Steve gave us lots of tips on places to go. His art decorates the cottage. Steve and Karen were wonderful hosts and we would definitely return for another stay.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your comments. Hopefully we'll see you again sometime soon. Warmest wishes Karen and Steve

“A little gem, not to be missed!”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2014

A beautiful little cottage, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The location is magical and within easy driving distances to the main places of interest. The owners are very helpful and informative about the area. We will certainly be going back for another visit as soon as we can!

Owner's reply: Thank you for writing about your time here, it is lovely to get great feedback like this from our guests. We want to make sure everybody has the best holiday, so to know you really enjoyed your stay is brilliant. Thanks again. Warmest wishes Karen and Steve

“Perfect for our requirements!”

Reviewed 9 Jan 2014

We can only echo the sentiments expressed by previous reviewers of this property. We have been holidaying in France for a number of years, but this was the first time that we have needed to visit out of season. The accommodation was exactly what we needed. Clean, warm, comfortable and practical. The owners were helpful and friendly, and we could have asked for no more. Probably the best testimonial we can write is that a month after this stay, we needed to return to finish off a few things, and we had no hesitation in contacting the Karen and Steve and booking up again! As expected, the second stay was every bit as satisfactory as the first.

“Perfect holiday heaven”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2014

Great location in lush green countryside, and 10-15min stroll to a small village with 4 restaurants/bars, 2 boulangeries, 1 excellent boucherie/traiteur and a great Carrefour for everything else. The cottage itself is an ok-sized living/dining/kitchen area + shower/loo, but has everything you need for holiday catering. The bedroom is enormous, with an equally giant and very comfortable bed. You step straight out from the living area onto a pebbled terrace with dining equipment, bbq and sun loungers. The loungers are heaven to flop on after a day canoeing, walking, river/lake swimming or plain old over-eating! For cloudy days, it's an easy drive to major prehistoric sites in the Vezere valley like Lascaux, also geological caves, chateaux, medieval towns. It's ridiculous how much there is to do here, and equally, how much the peace and quiet is so conducive to doing absolutely nothing. If you're a foodie, you'll be like a kid-in-sweet-shop, what with the local nut wines, foie gras, truffles, duck, cheese and wine etc. Steve is a good person to talk food with, and very generous with his eggs! We are already missing it all, especially Scooby, who is the best (if greediest) host anyone could wish for.

“a really wonderful place”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2013

We had a great recreation time at Les Pachauds, for relaxing this place is perfectly calm! Thanks a lot for the nice hints like Layotte restaurant where we had a marvellous evening with an excellent dinner. We felt like home at the nice gite and its wonderful place outside. Greetings from Cologne, Ines and Andreas

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write about your time here with us. Layotte is one of our favourite restaurants, so we're glad that you got to enjoy this quite unique experience too. Thanks again, warmest wishes Karen and Steve

“A little slice of heaven in the Dordogne.......”

Reviewed 9 Dec 2012

We have thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks stay at Les Pachauds. The accommodation is good and the bed is SO comfortable and huge! What we have loved so much is the peace and quiet with the amazing views.Steve and Karen are amazing and Steve has lots of local knowledge and will help you out with any questions you have. We can thoroughly recommend the restaurant in the hotel at the top of the village on the left, The Montauriol, the people are so friendly and the 'menu du jour' is amazing value. This is a great base to explore the area with so many lovely places to visit. An absolute must is a visit to Layotte restaurant, we thoroughly enjoyed that experience. Scooby is an absolute delight and loves as much fuss as you can give him, especially his ears !! Words cannot describe how beautiful and peaceful the cottage is, we would both go back in a heartbeat and will definitely be back!

Owner's reply: The bed really is something else I know and together with the peaceful surrounding, so many guests don't want to get up !! Thank you for a great review, and hopefully we'll see you again sometime soon. Kindest regards Karen and Steve
