Plumstone Cottage was rebuilt to maximise natural light, stripped wooden floors and an open plan layout. Although restored to its 17th century state, it now includes modern comforts like a roll top bath, washing machine and stainless steel cooker. The huge Breton hearth provides cosy fireside evenings. Plum Cottage is located in a quiet woodland, scattered with boulders, ancient ruins, and teeming with birdlife. The woods offer a place to walk or simply just to be. The villiage of Mellionnec, with its organic bakery and local produce store, is only 15 mins walk away, while the town of Rostrenen, 10 mins drive, contains all the amenities as well as a brilliant wood-fired pizzeria. There are endless green lanes for walking and cycling. For a swim Lake Guerledan is only 20 mins/the beach an hour.

The Brittany region
Situated in the heart of Brittany, the countryside is rich in celtic history. Massive mossy boulders and ancient megalithic sites all form part of the landscape with its lakes, rivers and forests. Both the Cote d'Amor and Finistere regions are famous for ancient sites. These range from megalithic menhirs dolmens and hill forts in the immediate area to the massive earthworks at Carnac on the south coast. This inspires the food, art and the rich folk music heritage which is still very much alive in the Breton Circle dancing and festnoz celebrations.
The coasts are wild and rugged, and easily accessible being around an hour to the south, west and north. Even closer for wild lake-swimming, is the massive Quenecan Forest and Guerledan Lake. The Anse De Sourdan at Guerledan lake, on the south side has a small beach, playground and the Merlin lakeside restaurant and cafe.
The houses are located a ten minute walk from the village of Mellionnec This small village has an organic bakery selling fresh bread and organic croissants, and also serves as a shop run by local organic growers. With croissants and cakes in hand, one can wander over to the local bar for a steaming cafe creme to round off the mornings' activities.
The market town of Rostrenen is only 7 km away where, as well as the weekly market, there are banks, cafes, a cinema and restaurants, builders merchants, supermarkets and 2 organic shops. Mellionnec is the French representative in the Cultural Village of Europe programme and community events include folk dances, village fetes the independant film festivals and the Kizellan annual sculpture festival.
All around the local area are walkways and tracks to explore. There is a great circular walk that passes along our track as well as a cycle route around the village.
The major towns of Carhaix and Pontivy are less than 30mins away and provide a wider variety of sports, social and cultural activities and shops.
