Location description from owner

The England region

The City of Hereford lies at the geographical heart of Herefordshire and boasts a wonderful Catherdral which is home to the world famous and historic Mappa Mundi and Chained Library Exhibition. A foot friendly city with museums and rivers walks and busy but still quaint shopping. You will find weekly farmers markets here as well and the daily indoor market in the traffic free high town. The Three Choirs and The Festival of Herefordshire are just two of the annual events held in the heart of the city.
An easily accessible train station provides the transport to visit towns and cities further afield. The historic market towns of Ledbury, Leominster and Church Stretton are nearby as is the famous 'book capital' of Hey on Wye.

Ross-on-Wye

Ross on Wye is at the heart of the Wye Valley in An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As a popular tourist venue and part of the famous 'Wye Tour' visitors have been coming here for centuries. The stunning River Wye meandering its way through the town is undoubtedly one of it hightlights.
Within a very short walk from the streets of town you can sit on the river bank to picnic or walk and explore the vast amount of bird and wildlife here. The river is very popular with many canoeists and families who gently pass along on their way to the next rest or watering hole! There are of course the ones who like to take the challenge of the rapids which provides much entertainment for the viewer on the riverbank! The nearest canoe launch is a short 10 mins drive away from The Roost. Or discover the beauty of the river from the river cruiser tours at Symonds Yat. A spectacular place to visit and home to the perigrine falcons breeding area and only 15/20 mins drive from this holiday home.
In and around town, Ross has many places to eat and drink from cafes and coffee shops showcasing local home made produce to traditional English pubs, hotel restaurants, and individual Indian, Thai, Chinese cuisines.
It has three supermarkets, weekly and farmers markets and very good local craft shops as well has some high street names. The renowned 'Labels' shopping outlet is 5 mins out of town and is a weekly attraction for many coach loads of visitors. Antique shops abound and it has won the Britain in Bloom Award. The Visitors Centre is a hive of information and second to none.
In the pretty little award winning village of BISHOPSWOOD, 15 mins drive from the town of Ross is where you will find The Roost at Vine Tree. Although in the postal area of Herefordshire, the village lies to the northern edge of The Forest of Dean and is on the Welsh Borders making it the perfect base from which to explore the Forest of Dean, The Malvern Hills, The Black Mountains, Chelthenham, Gloucestershire, Chepstow, Monmouthshire and Abergavenny. The pretty town of Newent with its heritage museum and birds of prey visitors centre is also close by.
Within Bishopswood village itself, and a lovely walk from The Roost, you will find our local shop/off licence providing newspapers, freshly baked bread, daily essentials and hot/cold take away food. All Saints Church is nestled within the trees and has a very warm welcome for visitors. The Village Hall is a hub of activity and has various classes you could attend from Swing Jive and Lindy Hop to Zumba/Dance Fit, Yoga and Pilates! There are often many events organised by the village to which visitors are always welcome to attend.

“Very enjoyable stay in a stunning location, would thoroughly recommend!”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2015

If you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing break in a stunning location, then The Roost is the perfect place for exactly that, as we found out. Carol and Barry were brilliant hosts, on hand to answer any queries we had, as well as to offer their local knowledge of the surrounding area. We could not fault the accommodation, it was very well equipped and immaculately clean. The Roost is ideal for exploring the Wye Valley and surrounding areas, with easy access to Symonds Yat, Goodrich and The Forest of Dean to name a few. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at The Roost, and look forward to visiting again ourselves in the future.

“A WONDERFUL RELAXING EXPERIENCE.”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

We found our stay at The Roost a most enjoyable and relaxing experience, the property itself is of a high standard and in turn comfortable. The proprietors, Carol and Barry were extremely helpful and obliging. If you're looking for an off the beaten track quiet holiday with comfortable living accommodation and wonderful views then we highly recommend you chose The Roost.

“Great Cottage, Great People, Great Stay”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2015

We enjoyed our short time in "The Roost". The cottage itself is lovely and well fitted out. Has all the cooking equipment that you could need. The location is great and is a short drive to local attractions.

“Great location and facilities”

Reviewed 25 Jun 2015

This well-equipped apartment is perfect for anyone who wants to explore the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. It's a really peaceful spot, and the owners are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

“An amazing honeymoon”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2015

We decided to spend our honeymoon in UK and we had an amazing time. The weather was great and our stay at Carol and Barry's appartment, the Roost at Vine Tree, was perfect. The place is fitted with everything needed for 2 persons and it has plenty of room. The surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful and is ideal for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon, if you're like us and prefer a private and secluded place, away from all the noise and commotion of city life. Some places we visited and we really recommend are: 1. Symonds Yat, for a walk in the forest, great views of the surrounding area, a 40 minute boat trip on the river Wye and canoeing. 2. Puzzlewood, the inspiration for the forests of Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings. 3. Hereford, with it's amazing cathedral. 4. Bourton on the water, described as the 'Little Venice' of the Cotswolds. 5. Cotswold wildlife park. A car is a must, and if you're not from UK and are not familiar with the roads and traffic rules (like driving on the right side lane), then you also need a GPS. Carol gave us helpful directions and she even picked us up from a nearby town, when we got a bit lost, on our arrival. She and her husband were amazing hosts and helped us out with info on tourist attractions and directions. Thank you again, Carol and Barry, for all your hospitality. Best wishes from Romania, Marius and Luiza.

“A lovely place to get away from it all”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2015

The Roost is a great place to unwind. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and Carol and Barry are a friendly couple who leave you to yourselves. The accomodation is lovely; everything you need is there, and my girlfriend and I really enjoyed out stay - we'd definitely go back to see some more of the area.

“golden anniversary”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2015

We have stayed in many apartments both here and abroad and the standard of THE ROOST AT VINE TREE is tops. it spotless and all our needs catered for, including a very nice bottle of wine from our hosts Carol and Barry who could not do enough for us. there are so many places to see we did not do all on our list, so another visit is on the cards. Diane and Bill.

“Delightful”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2015

Lovely clean and comfortable space with everything we needed. Great windows to view local birds, friendly pheasant neighbors. Good walks from the doorstep and easy access to lovely area. Carol and Barry were really helpful and generous. We will definitely be back.

“A great base for our short break”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2014

This was an ideal base for us to explore the Wye Valley. It is close to Symonds Yat and Goodrich Castle. Everything we needed was in the apartment and we were able to relax and enjoy our few days. Carol and Barry were there to greet us and were on hand to answer any questions we had about the area. Carol was kind enough to book us a table at a nearby restaurant on our first evening.

“A very quiet, clean retreat with more than everything you'll need! Excellent”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2014

We wanted a quiet spot to relax and unwind. We found it. Carol & Barry could not have been more welcoming and their local knowledge was great to have. The wine was very good too! If you are looking for a base for superb walking, canoeing and access to the Forrest of Dean (to name a few attractions) you get it here. The accommodation is very quiet, very well equipped and above all immaculately clean, you will not be disappointed. Value for money, you can get better than this.
