Location description from owner
The Lazio region
www.lazioturismo.it is an indipendent site, it is purely the expression of the work of volunteers who love Lazio, one of the Italy's most interesting areas. Our aim is to collect and present informations, starting points and suggestions to enjoy the whole richness of Lazio, beyond the structure of a traditional travel guide. As result of our choice you will not find many data about the city of Rome. In this mind we invite you to propose to the web editor (by e-mail) questions, remarks, contributions and personal pages. Free of charge personal or commercial pages are also available for anyone.
Rome is a treasure trove of treasures and every corner reserves sensational emotions. Those who visit the first time can put on the list of things not to miss the remains of the illustrious past of Rome, from the Colosseum, a true symbol of Rome, and continuing with the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Baths of Caracalla and the Arch of Constantine. The church is best known to the world properly outside the Italian territory: St. Peter's in the Vatican. Of great importance also St. John Lateran, the first basilica built in Rome. The capital city is also known for its many fountains that adorn the squares, such as the Trevi Fountain, the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Navona and the Triton Fountain by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Other places worth seeing are the impressive Castel Sant'Angelo, the Tiber, and the twentieth-century Altar of the Fatherland. The Roman museums retain exceptional collections, such as those kept in the Capitoline Museums or the Borghese Gallery and Museum. In the Vatican Museums are all the priceless art treasures accumulated by the popes over the centuries. Attached is the Sistine Chapel, painted by Michelangelo. To embrace the panorama of the capital as a whole you can climb in the beautiful park of Colle del Pincio and for a full immersion in Rome more lively, yet authentic features, you just have to walk around the neighborhood of Trastevere.
The Roman Summer, organized by the City, is a succession of prominent cultural events, exhibitions and shows of that brighten the warm months of the capital. Within this program, also ranks the traditional Festa de 'Noantri, of popular origin, which takes place in the district of Trastevere. In October there is the International Film Festival of Rome. In November, it was the turn of the Rome Jazz Festival, which houses the Auditorium Parco della Musica international stars of the genre. An event which has become customary is also the one with the concert that unions organize in Piazza San Giovanni on the occasion of Labour Day (1 May), who attend every year tens of thousands of people. As for the religious festivals, has great importance for tourism of the pilgrims Holy Week and especially the Way of the Cross which is held on Good Friday at the Colosseum to Capitoline Hill.
