The Lazio region

Rome is situated in the region of Lazio. Lazio boasts a number of natural and historical sites, ideal for day trips away from the bustling city. Amongst the key attractions:

• The ancient Roman villas in Tivoli - Villa Adriana, Villa Gregoriana and Villa d'Este.

• the Castelli Romani (Albano, Grottaferrata, Marino, etc): green hills surrounding Rome where the aristocratic families of the 15th century had their summer palaces.

• Beautiful lakes of volcanic origin, amongst which the lakes of Bracciano and Martignano.

• Viterbo, the second largest town in Lazio, was established during the Middle Ages. It was the principal residence of the Popes in the 14th and 15th centuries. Viterbo is famous for its Medieval art and the stunning Palace of the Popes (Palazzo dei Papi).

• Northern Lazio is characterized by its Etruscan towns, amongst which Cerveteri, Tarquinia and Tuscania, which feature Etruscan museums and ruins.

• The Tirrenean coast is rich of pleasant beaches. To the south of Rome we can recommend Circeo (where Homer’s epic the Odyssey had it that Ulysses met the sorceress Circe), Sabaudia, Terracina, Sperlonga and Gaeta; to the north Santa Marinella and Santa Severa leading up to the beautiful coast of Tuscany.

• If you take the fast trains (Eurostar), Naples and Florence are only 1.5 hours away.

The apartment is situated in Campo de Fiori, the most historic fruit and vegetable market of the old city, overlooking the statue of Giordano Bruno, the famous philosopher, astronomer and writer, who, in 1600, was burned in the square for his views, considered as heretical by the Catholic Church.

Campo de Fiori and the adjacent Piazza Farnese are not only amongst the prime sites to visit in the city. The square is also walking distance from all principal sites, including the Vatican (1.8 km), the Colosseum and the imperial forums (1.7 km), the Pantheon (800m), the Spanish steps (1.6km) and Piazza del Popolo (2km), the shopping area around Via del Corso (1.3 km) and Piazza Navona (300m). The Campo de' Fiori neighborhood is also rich of bars and restaurants (amongst which we would recommend the Pizzerie Balestrari and Baffetto, the traditional Roman restaurant "Er Galletto", the delicatessen Roscioli and the upscale restaurants.

Camponeschi and San Lorenzo). Finally, the apartment is a 5 minutes walk across the Tiber river to the lively neighborhood Trastevere.

"Great location and owner"

This apartment is in a great location with an easy 20-30 minute walk to all the attractions in Rome. It is exactly as represented by the owner Enrique who was very good at returning messages prior to booking and while at the apartment. There is a very small 2 person lift that gets you to a short flight of stairs so it is easily accessable while on a high floor overlooking the square. The owner arranged pick-up and drop off from the airport which was great and met us to open the apartment late in the evening. There is no shortages of restaurants or bars in the square. The market opens up in the morning and closes by late afternoon and the square is cleaned up nicely. The deck is great for watching people in the evening or having breakfast in the morning. There were a couple of late night partiers that could be heard early in the morning, but I don't expect it would be different anywhere else in central Rome. If you get tired of walking taxi's are easily available and there is also good bus access, although we did not try. No phone, but great wireless. Great place to stay for a week while touring Rome

Thanks Dave, We're really happy that you enjoyed our apartment and the Campo de Fiori area. It was a pleasure hosting you and many thanks for your kind words we look forward to seeing you again in Rome, Nathalie, Enrique and Diego

"A Wonderful holiday"

We had a wonderful holiday , The apartment was beautiful and perfectly situated within a short distance from most of Romes main attractions. We loved the terrace and enjoyed watching the market in the mornings and the musicians and entertainers in the evenings. Thank You... Nathalie and Enrique, we loved meeting you and your beautiful little son Diego and are grateful for all the help you gave us and for arranging transport to and from the airport...hopefully one day we will be back.

"Fantastic apartment - best location"

Our stay was perfect from the first introduction to Natalie to our farewell from Enrique. The location is brilliant and the continuous show in the Campo was a constant delight- particularly when Italy was playing in Euro 2012. Everything we wanted to see and do was easy to get to, and there was an endless choice of great shopping, restaurants and entertainment. The apartment is beautifully appointed and the added bonus of the terrace gave space and light. Wish we could have stayed longer.

"Beautiful flat in wonderful piazza"

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful and comfortable flat, with endless entertainment from the activity in the Campo. Who needs TV etc when you can sit on a lovely roof terrace, people watch and enjoy early evening buskers? The constantly unfolding scene from morning market to evening passagiata and constant buzz made it tempting to stay on the terrace all day long! There are great food stalls, good local shops, bars and restaurants and it is an easy walk to all the central places - the Pantheon a few minutes away, the forum and coliseum a short walk, museums, art galleries, parks and the Tiber on the doorstep.

"Beautiful apartment in Campo de' Fiori, Rome, Italy"

Dear all, this is quite simply the most beautiful and gorgeous flat ever! It is wonderfully located right in the heart of ancient Rome, a mere footstep away from the most fascinating and mysterious ancient sites, and surrounded by sumptuous and delicious examples of gastronomic heaven! All this coupled with the latest state-of-the-art comfort and convenience within an apartment that is equipped faultlessly! A must for anyone who wants a hassle-free, pleasure-filled trip to the capital of the Italian peninsula. Thank you!
