San Lorenzo is the neighborhood of the youth population , and creative student in Rome. It has the marks of the ancient past of the city, but also the bombing of the Second World War and the era of the industrial boom : it's a cool neighborhood . Those who live here probably prefer the street art to Caravaggio , vintage shops and boutiques of downtown, but it is also at the forefront of cultural capital. It is the younger and more vibrant neighborhood of Rome.

Rome

SAN LORENZO
The district of San Lorenzo (Saint-Laurent) is a district on the margin of Rome, neighbouring the exterior of the Aurelian Walls. It is located north-east of Rome Termini Station and along the Porta Maggiore. This place that was built to accommodate the workers, peasants and immigrants at the time of the rural exodus, became the students' district of Rome. Moreover, it is located near the University of Rome, The Sapienza. On the fringes of urban centers and tourist attractions, the San Lorenzo district is famous for the festive atmosphere that reigns by night. Indeed, many bars and nightclubs make it a hotbed of appointments for the Roman youth. In addition, the district is very lively at the day and became the world of students and artists in Rome. Recent residential area, it is devoid of major historical sites.
Two religious buildings located in the district of San Lorenzo, however, worth a detour: the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori Le Mura also named Saint Laurent's Outside the Walls, and the Basilica of San Lorenzo or Saint Lawrence. The Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside-the-Walls is one of the so-called minor churches of Rome. It was founded around 330 by Constantine on the site of the tomb of the martyr St. Lawrence, deacon under Pope Sixtus II, which it houses within its walls, in the confession under the altar. It is located outside the Saint-Laurent Gate and along the Via Tiburtina leading to Tivoli.
In the thirteenth century, a second church with many frescoes depicting the life of Saint-Laurent was built in honor of both the martyr and Saint-Etienne in front of the Basilica of St. Lawrence Outside-the-Walls. The two churches were merged together in one building thereafter. Also, it used to be, for many centuries, the principal residence of the Patriarch of Jerusalem. It was the target of bombing in 1943 during World War II. The small village of San Lorenzo also houses the Campo Verano cemetery, a cemetery located on Highway Tiburtina built during the reign of Napoleon between 1805 and 1814. The Catacombs of Santa Ciriaca buried under the site Verano, are hosting the tomb of St. Lawrence. Many works of art of great value are found elsewhere in the Campo Verano Cemetery.
