“A great family break”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2016

We stayed over New Year 2015/16 in a 4 bedroomed cottage. The location is great; rural but there is a nice dog-friendly pub with food in easy walking distance (but closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). For anything else other than walks, you need a car. The approach road is unmade and very bumpy so don't bring a low-slung car. Winter walks were fine but of course rather muddy; I imagine it is glorious in spring-autumn. The games room and pool were great r to relax with the family. The pool area was super-clean and lovely and warm. It would be great to have a treadmill in the gym for those of use too creaky to run outside! The units are new, and not really cottagey, but well designed. The 4 bedroomed units are semi-detached but noise from next door was minimal (I don't know if they thought the same of us!!). The accommodation is comfortable rather than luxurious, which is great with a family. The size was ample for 5, but any more would be a squeeze in the living area. We had 8 for one night only, and that was enough! Bathrooms though are ample, it's really the living room and kitchen which are a bit small for lots of people. The kitchen in particular takes only one cook; a dishwasher would be great but there really is no room. No gripes, though a pair of scissors in the kitchen would be helpful, and blackout linings for the bedrooms curtains for those hoping to enjoy a holiday lie-in, or for babies; I woke up rather early in January, so goodness knows how light it would be in the summer!! One of our sofas was also very squashy, at only 8 stone I felt my bottom was approaching the floor :-) Wifi was adequate for normal use, everything like cleaning equipment etc was provided and the dog was very happy with her exclusive toileting area; the only problem was the bird-scarer going off every few minutes which put her off a bit especially at night, but as a recent rescue hound she is particularly nervous! Over all it was perfect for our break, but I imagine proper walkers and those who can let their dogs off the lead would have a marvellous time especially in warmer seasons. When arriving at night we could see very little; it took ages to find our property, and we hadn't a clue where the dog walking area was on arrival; I wonder if more signage or a site map on the website might be good idea?

Hi there, Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and I am glad you enjoyed your stay here. We value your feedback and will take on board your helpful suggestions regarding the blinds and map/signage. We hope to be able to accommodate you again if you are ever back in the area. Best wishes, Kirsty

“Clean, Well Provisioned & Welcoming Accommodation”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2013

My family (2 adults & 3 teenagers) stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage over the Christmas period. Needing somewhere almost midway between family in Essex & Kent, this was an ideal location. The cottage was clean and had everything necessary for a full week. The provision of swimming towels as well as everyday towels was great, as was access to the washing machine and dryer. The kitchen was well stocked and even had a travel adaptor for my European mixer - I made a pavlova for 10 in the oven that turned out just as at home, so no skimping on size there. Would certainly recommend for people who need a base in Kent. Debbie most helpful & came to say hello & make sure everything was OK as we had arrived late in the evening, and her directions were clear and accurate. Cottage is at the end of a lane, part of which is unmade but the condition of the road is perfectly fine for all cars.

“The best place to enjoy your holidays with children”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2011

Everything was easy from the beginning. We are from Spain and booked in the internet .The great advantage is having the owners so near, they are very kind and willing to help you. The property is very big and safe at the same time. Children have a lot of things to do and adults can enjoy peaceful moments. The location is perfect to explore county Kent and ,of course, London. The amenities are great to relax and have fun. What I liked best was that I felt at home despite being abroad. Maybe what I liked least was to drive even to buy some bread but that is how things are if you live in the country. The houses are very cosy and you find everything you can need.

“Just what we needed!”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2011

My daughter was planning on getting married at Cooling Castle Barn in Rochester and as we live in Southampton I needed to find a cottage locally so that she would have somewhere to stay the night before the wedding and to get ready. I found Stable Cottages through a web search and contacted Debbie one of the owners by phone over a year before the dates I required. From the outset she was extremely helpful when I explained why I needed the cottage and assured me that it would not be a problem for photographers, hairdressing and make up ladies as well as bridesmaids and bridal cars.to turn up at the property. She also gave me information about local kennels for our dogs for the duration of the wedding weekend and agreed that after the wedding we could keep out dogs at the property. We kept in contact over the months of waiting and she always responded promptly to any questions that I had The week before arrival I was told which cottage we would be staying in and the code for the entry gates therefore allowing us to proceed straight to out cottage on arrival .The property was immaculate the best that I have every rented. My daughter was able to spend the night with all her family and bridesmaids in a relaxing and homely setting. During our stay both Debbie and Jason were there to provide any help needed. The setting was outstanding, perfect for anyone wanting to visit London but not wanting to stay in the city On our arrival home we discovered that my husband had left his glasses behind I contact Debbie and they were back with us by lunchtime the next day! You really can't ask for more than that.. All in all it was 'Just what we needed' and I would recommend this it to anyone, you will be sure of a warm and friendly welcome
