Situated in Beautiful Rivelin valley, which has sceneic riverside walks and an industrial heritage trail focusing on the many water wheels and mills which once dotted the valley.

The river Rivelin itself drains the peat moors of the peak, flowing via Rivelin Dams, through the wooded valley, to Malin Bridge. The cottage itself lies on the south facing valley side, above the site where old water wheels and mills once stood.

“Needs some TLC”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2016

Why are there no reviews here since 2014?! Perhaps because the owners are totally disinterested in their property. I emailed them about the following concerns, but have never had a reply. Apparently they live next door- but -one, but I had no contact from them at all, despite me phoning Jo to say the bathroom floor flooded when I showered. "Oh yes, I've heard that happens. You'll have to put some towels down to mop up"!! A design fault and very difficult to manage on a daily basis. I had not gone away for a holiday break to mop the bathroom floor every day!! There was a very intrusive chicken (presumably belonging to Rob and Jo who own Blackberry Cottage) which ate our food and came into the kitchen-- but no free-range eggs as a "thank you" for our tolerance of her! Not even one roll of toilet paper or any kitchen cleaning things such as washing up liquid or a dishcloth, just as "starters". The cooker was filthy. Yuk. 4 broken and splintered floor tiles in the kitchen; loads of missing/broken light bulbs throughout the cottage and no torch -- which was needed; inadequate bedlinen for twin beds despite having asked for it; 3 Champagne flutes and one small tumbler are the only glasses available; caustic chemicals and paints stored in the children's Wendy House; no barbeque (although advertised); no swing/climbing frame as advertised; leaking gutter outside main bedroom window; broken blind in small bedroom. This is all very sad and so easy and cheap to rectify. If the cottage had the attention it needs, it would be a really lovely place to stay. Unfortunately, because neither Jo nor Rob has bothered to respond to my complaints, I will not book here again nor recommend it.
