Walk to nearby village inns (Breaton's Malt Shovel Inn or Burton Leonard's Hare & Hounds and The Royal Oak) or there is a pub in the village (The Red Lion) that's open all day everyday serving food. Being in the heart of North Yorkshire the hut is perfectly positioned for many of the areas attractions and there is village bus every 15mins to many of these for those of you wanting to keep your carbon footprint down.

The Yorkshire region

The shepherd's hut is equal distance between Harrogate and Ripon. The area is know as the gateway to the dales and in fact the hut is in Nidderdale-while not considered actually part of the dales is recognised as one of the most beautiful areas. The village of Ripley with it's castle, bistro, shops and gallery is on the doorstep. The world heritage site Fountains Abbey is a 10 minute drive away and even walkable from the hut on the bridle ways.

There is a very good bus service which runs from Ripon through the village, Ripley, Harrogate, Harewood House and finally to Leeds.
Ripley has a well know blues club with many well know acts playing. In the summer months Ripley Castle holds many open air concerts attracting big names. The Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate Autumn & Spring Flower Show are held at the show ground in Harrogate. The Country Living show has now included Harrogate as one of it's venues. Many big shows and acts come to the theatres in Harrogate, Leeds and York and major concerts now held at the newly opened first direct arena in Leeds. In the summer there are many festivals in the area including the Leeds Fest.

In July 2014 the Tour de France will be coming through the area, in fact through the village, so you will have front row seats for this once in a lifetime event. The hut will be bookable for the weekend at a one off rate as it is anticipated it will be very busy in the area.

“Secluded, picturesque, perfect and with a hot tub!”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2016

At the time of writing this we have already booked our second visit, and a weekend for our son. Joanna, our host, was lovely and friendly and provided us with a 'breakfast basket' plus a cake for my husband's birthday. It was the perfect place to unwind away from the stresses of everyday life before a hectic Christmas. It's definitely a place for wellies if it's been wet, but it didn't stop us using the hot tub and the fire pit. It was very romantic sat around the fire wrapped in blankets, sipping wine and watching the stars.

“Just what we wanted”

Not far from home but tucked away from society. A warm fire, wildlife and generous breakfast supply. A great place to read a book and keep the fire going (Ours was a winter stay) The perfect antidote to life's usual slog. We wouldn't bet against a return visit.

“Absolutely awesome”

We had a brilliant couple of days at the Shepherds hut in January. The hut had everything you could possibly dream of inside, including the woodburner which got the hut so warm we slept with the door open. Jo has kitted it out with all the necessary utensils for cooking up a feast on the woodburner/fire pit outside. Also, for when you need a quicker cup of tea there are a couple of gas stoves in the outside kitchen. Highly reccommend the hot tub. Can't think of a better place to spend an evening star gazing. We luckily also had a full moon which gave some light but otherwise it's only candle light and torches. It's so peaceful and quiet and really makes you feel like you are getting away from it all. There is so much wildlife around, in the morning the birds and squirrels will empty the bird feeders before you've finished breakfast and the pheasants start wandering around waiting to be fed. Then there are the Alpacas who are just brilliant. We went along when Jo was feeding them one evening and it was great to see them so close...unfortunately they aren't as cuddly as they look. There is so much to do here, the time went too fast. There are lots of lovely walks around and apparently some good pubs although because we went on a Monday they were mostly shut. Everything about this place is great, it's wild and luxurious at the same time. can't wait to go back.

“Cozy, comfort, romance, nature”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2015

Absolutely the loveliest place I have stayed with my boyfriend. Snug shepherd hut, cozy wood burner, romantic fairy lights and candles, loved the hot tub and set in beautiful bluebell wood. We could relax and enjoyed walking through the countryside to the pub. Two nights was simply not long enough!
