Description from owner

Description

'Les Rossignols' is a pretty cottage attached to our 18th century Farmhouse (Longere) & is situated in a hamlet set in the rolling Dordogne countryside , part of ancient Aquitaine.

The cottage is built of lime rendered field stone, with terracotta roof tiles. There are long views from the windows, over fields of sunflowers, wheat & maize & woodland. The interior has been renovated to reflect its origins, in reclaimed materials & features an old stone fireplace, a terracotta chimney breast, oak beams & wooden floors & ceiling upstairs.

There is a large living room with sofa bed, separate kitchen/diner & stairs up to a shower room & a large double bedroom with a rustic mezzanine bedroom above it. Outside there is a gravelled courtyard with seating/dining area & barbeque.

Nearby are river beaches, offering swimming & canoeing; beautiful villages& market towns; restaurants to suit all budgets; cycling & walking, through the hills & forests & bird watching.

A car will be necessary to get around.

Days out to the beauties & the wine of Bordeaux, Bergerac, St Emilion & the chateaus of the Dordogne valley. Good access from Bordeaux & Bergerac airports; TGV to Angoulême from London, via Paris. Probably unsuitable for young children due to steep staircase/mezzanine.

“A beautiful gite with a real sense of history”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2013

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Les Rossignols. One of the best gites we have stayed in, the gite had a real sense of history and amazing attention to detail. The location was great, really suited us, as we have 2 teenagers who really enjoyed the river beaches nearby. Easy drive to many historic sites and towns, a bit of something for everyone. Simon & Sally were charming hosts, who really made us feel welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The first time as a family we can really say that we totally relaxed, a little bit of paradise. We will definitely be back!

Many thanks for your glowing review! Hope to see you again. Best Wishes, Sally
