The Dordogne region
The Dordogne is world famous for a reason. It is simply breathtaking and is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the country. There are more chateaux here than anywhere else in France. There are numerous, beautiful and fascinating medieval towns and villages and prehistoric caves and sites of historical importance for the history enthusiast. The Dordogne river meanders past some of the most beautiful sights in France and the vineyards of Percharmant, Monbazillac, Pomerol and Saint Emilion are all situated along the river.
Riberac hosts the largest marker in the Dordogne, every Friday morning. Set up is usually around 7am and the sunny weather usually keeps stall holders busy till well after lunchtime. The market is a cornucopia of delights, everything from delicious breads, pastries and treats to fresh fish and vegetables in the food section. You can also fine fantastic gifts to take home with you at one of the many artisanal stalls where you will find local soaps, honey, wines, hand thrown ceramics, the list is endless. In town there are several fantastic bars and cafes offering wines, cafe, chocolat chaud or refreshing panache.Live music events are held several times a week in the square in summer season and are a massive draw for tourists and locals alike.
There are many swimming lakes and man made beaches for those long hot summer days, perfect for families with small children.
Riberac has 5 supermarkets all situated on the edge of town. There are numerous shops in town including 2 pharmacies, flower shops, wine merchants and of course several fantastic bakeries selling bread and croissants baked daily.
There is a clay tennis court which can be hired for a very reasonable price. local fishing, canoing, swimming all within easy reach. There are numerous galleries in the area supporting the work of local artists and there is a wonderful cinema where in summer showing all the latest films, often in english. You will never be bored in this area.

"Ticked all of boxes"
From the moment we arrived we knew we'd made the right choice. We were greeted with a warm welcome. The rooms were immaculate and spacious. Our hosts were very knowledgeable of the local area. Great restaurants, bars, art galleries and local markets for us adults within a stones throw. For our teenage daughters an abundance of river side beaches and lifeguarded lakes (free canoeing!) with cafes. A short drive took us to villages and towns steeped in history and impressive architecture together with interesting shopping to keep the teenagers entertained! We never did find time to sample the wines in the local chateau's....so we'll definitely be returning :-)
