Ribadesella is a unspoiled holiday destination boasting local traditions such as the cidre and cheese. An old fishing port which has developed to a thriving town with narrow streets and a raft of eateries, delicatessen and boutique shops. Not on the tourist map for many, but very popular with the Spaniards escaping from the scorching heat.
Great base for a beach holiday with the well maintained beaches through the tourist seasons, long expanse of golden beach in a relatively sheltered bay, making it child friendly. Lovely promenade along the beach from the apartment all the way into the town. Town is a lovely walk of appox 1.5km allowing you to walk off supper and recover from the Cider.
The Picos de Europa as a backdrop make for a superb destination to explore, great for those with a serious interest in rock climbing or those just wanting to take a amble from the parking areas through the lakes in the mountains.Explore the blow holes on the coast, or the unique flora in the area, take a trip on the Funicular up into the mountain. Ribadesella is becoming a bit of a surfer haven, or for other water sports why not try the canoes down the river Sella.
You will never be short of choice on places to eat out, try some of the local Fabada (Chorizo, Pork and beans), or the mouth watering Calamari, there are a raft of local cheeses including the strong blue Cabralese. There are a number of local super markets also should you wish to self cater and a well stocked kitchen of utensils to help you along the way.
Excellent road networks means Ribadesella can be reached from Bilbao in 2 hours, Santander airport / ferry terminal in less than an hour & Oviedo Airport in 50 minutes.
A truly wonderful destination, which I am sure you will to revisit.

The Asturias region
Asturias is steeped in traditions, the International Descent of the Sella (Descenso Internacional del Sella) is a race that takes place every year on the first weekend of August on the banks of the River Sella, and is accompanied by a celebratory gathering (La Fiesta de Les Piragües), through the streets and plaza of Ribadesella. The race begins in Arriondas, and finishes at the end of the River Sella, located in the “center” of Ribadesella.
Other festivals are celebrated with food, music, and dancing with original bagpipe/Asturiano music and folklore clothing. These festivals include religious celebrations for San Antón de Cuerres, San José de Sebreñu, Nuestra Señora de Fátima de Toriellu, San Isidro, San Lorenzo, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza de Collera, and Nuestra Señora de Guía, the patron of the fisherman. The Feria del Queso (cheese festival) de Cuerres and La Fiesta del Pez (fish festival) de Tereñes are other festivals celebrated throughout Ribadesella. Semana Santa, or Easter week is very important in Ribadesella. Processions are carried out daily, and great celebration, including a horse race/spectacular on the Santa Marina beach is held each year.
Visit the caves and the prehistoric paintings, or take a stroll along the Durasic coast line to spot the dinasaur footprints. Go walking or climbing in the Picos de Europa, some of the best climbing in Europe.
Check out the flora with some of the rarest species in the world.
Visit the spectacular blow holes along the coast lines.
Apartment is south facing, close to the Santa Marina Beach in Ribadesella

"Calm, relaxing and a wonderful base for exploring this regions traditional culture"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, quiet and relaxing apartment. Great location for access to the beach and not too far from town with a lovely walk along the promenade. An array of boutique shops to explore and a wealth of restaurants and bars serving good local dishes. The calamari is a must!! The apartment is well furnished and maintained and we would not hesitate to book again.

"Excellent relaxing holiday"
We had a great week staying here and we used it as an base to explore the surrounding country side and towns. It is a short walk to the beach and also close enough to the town centre to walk there and explore the restaurants and bars.
