Thank you very much for our stay. We found the booking process and the information provided for us was very helpful and felt very personal. The local information we got on booking in was really useful. The pictures for the directions were very good, although we actually missed the turning at the church first time. They might be helped by adding the distances and/or the number of tunnels!

The apartment was lovely, it was well equipped and clean with views as good

The apartment was lovely, it was well equipped and clean with views as good as claimed. I suspect the ones from the downstairs flat may have been obstructed, so we were glad that you changed our booking. We did have a problem with being locked on out when we arrived but we were very pleased with how quickly it got sorted out.

We used the ferries and even the little tourist train to get around and visited some of the beatiful villas. We hired one of the local boats but were caught in a nasty thunderstorm and ended up being ship-wrecked which was all quite frightening. We got away with it but learned a few lessons for the future, even though we have our own boat.

Our last day was spent at the Grand prix at Monza. I enjoyed buying the tickets myself on line and working out how to get there. We ended up driving to Como and getting the local train, which only cost 8 euros each including the shuttle bus to the track.

If you have people driving from Calais I can recommend the Novotel at Nancy, where we stayed on the way there and back. It was around 5 hours drive from Calais and 6 hours to Menaggio, not including stops.

Location description from owner

The Lake Como region

The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.

Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.

It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.

All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.

Warming, inspriing and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto
narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.

The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).

Rezzonico

The property is situated on the outskirts of town. The nearest village NORTH: Cremia (2km); Gravedona (10km); SOUTH: Menaggio (4km); Tremezzo (Villa Carlotta) 12 km; Como (50 km)

Rezzonico is located in the Province of Como in the Italian region of Lombardy. It lies on the north-west shore of the lake and has a population of approximately 1100 people. The nearest large town is Menaggio, which is about 10 minutes drive to the south.

There is a castle on the lake side of Rezzonico which dominates the village, that was built by Pope Clements XIII family in the XIV century. Many years ago, wealthy Milanese families used to use this location as their main summer retreat, which is testament to the beauty of the area.

Rezzonico is a really delightful little village with winding narrow cobbled streets, in between the ancient houses with their elegant portals and portico's, where fishermen spread out and repair their nets. There are a few restaurants, a small supermarket, bank and a pharmacy. A small market is held on a Wednesday, every two weeks, which makes for a great atmosphere. There are numerous picturesque spots and secluded beaches along the shoreline, ideal for those family picnics.

There are many facilities for sporting enthusiasts in the surrounding area including, sailing, swimming, fishing, skiing, windsurfing, golf, walking and climbing. For the less energetic, the area has beautiful Villas to visit and wonderful gardens, abundant with magnificent flowers and shrubs.

Golf:
There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Cadenabbia & Menaggio Golf Club celebrating 100 years this year and is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min. by car. Tel: +39 344 321 03. Green Fees: Weekdays EU 55, Weekends and Holidays EU 70 Euros; Golf Cart Rental EU 36.
Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).

Skiing:
This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibilty and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.

There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema , not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.

There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.

The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass, which is approx. 1 hr 20 min. by car.
