If you are looking for a laid back holiday in a lovely place with fab walks, peaceful and friendly, then this is it. Don’t miss the kite trail. Only downside is a VERY hard king bed.

Owner's reply: Shore Cottage is a favourite for couples with dogs. As you say, fab walks, on the beach and the surrounding woodland walks. Thank you for your constructive feedback regarding the bed. Our aim is to give you a comfortable stay. Sorry you found the bed too firm. They are hotel zip and link beds so we have only had guests tell us how comfy they are. On Linx website 85% of reviewers give them 5 stars so it is such a shame you found it hard. Perhaps we can give you a nice thick topper next time.

“Cottage with character and charm near the sea”

Shore cottage was a wonderful stay. We spent a week there, exploring Galloway and the Machars, and it was always a delight to come home to the cottage. Alex is a responsive and helpful host. The estate grounds are quite atmospheric, with the woods and walled garden, and the more formal garden near main house. The cottage is wonderfully secluded and peaceful, and there are a million stars on clear nights. The wood stove was welcome given the slight autumn chill, and sitting by the fire is such a pleasant way to spend the evening. Autumn visitors get apples, too, from the orchard in the cottage's garden - thank you, Alex!

Owner's reply: Thank you for painting such a cosy picture of Shore Cottage. So glad you were able to enjoy the cottage, gardens and surrounding area including the apples straight from the orchard. There are some old Scottish varieties among them not widely available. Thanks to a very kind local who turns the windfalls into apple juice we can share the produce with our guests for a little while longer. We hope to welcome you back at a different time of year. Alex, Roy and the team
