Description

Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Brittany countryside 'far from the maddening crowd' but with all amenities available close by. This is the ideal location for those seeking the real taste of rural France where you can swim in the heated pool, kick a ball in the field, barbecue on the terrace and enjoy quiet family evenings unwinding with a glass of wine. Locally you will find traditional French markets, lakes with great walks and fishing, magical historical features such as La Roche aux Fees (an ancient dolmen), the chateaux at Vitre, Fougeres, Chateaubriant and Chateaugiron. Location description from owner

The Brittany region

Before tourists were attracted to the many beaches of Brittany, many artists had already been struck by its beauty. Whether drawn to the megalithic Roche-aux-Fees or to the fortified castles at Fougeres, Vitre, Chateaugiron, lovers of ancient monuments will be spoilt for choice. The area abounds with lakes and forests providing many walks and cycle tracks and is a magnet for wildlife lovers. Being largely agricultural, the whole area offers peace and tranquility whilst still catering for the more active tourist with its easy access to the vibrant capital of Rennes. Enjoys a temperate climate - winters tend to be milder than in many parts of France and summers are normally warm and dry.

Retiers

Retiers is a small town with a church, supermarket, bakeries, hairdressers, chemists, doctors and dentist. Small market on Saturday morning.

La Guerche de Bretagne is six miles away and is a larger town with all the facilities and a market on Tuesday morning.

Rennes is approximately 20 miles away and is serviced by a new dual carriageway link. It has a metro with free parking, making it very easy to shop and visit. One of the largest farmers' markets in France is held every Saturday morning.

Activities available are:

Golfing
Fishing
Swimming (Olympic size pool at Chateaubriant and public pool at La Guerche) Note: men and boys can only wear proper swimming trunks not shorts in all public pools in France.
Horse riding
Karting
Adventure activities - including tree top climbing.
Safari Park
Enigma Park

Bastille Day is celebrated with food, a performance and dancing in the local park plus a firework display

Close-by at Martigne-Ferchaud there is an annual Etincelles Aquatique at the lake where local people perform a play over the lake to music and fireworks. Usually in early-mid August for three nights. This festival has become nationally famous and is an amazing spectable.

Local areas have their own agricultural festivals throughout the summer months
