Description

Le Poulallier is our family gite (holiday cottage) for four. Le Poulallier was a chicken house when La Petite Auberge was a farm, but you wouldn't know it now!

At the front of the gite there is a east facing, covered patio with seating for four. It is a great place to eat breakfast in the morning sun or somewhere to escape the sun later in the day and read a book. You enter via the kitchen, well equipped to produce a snack or a three course meal. As well as the cooker and fridge, you have a micro wave, toaster, kettle and coffee maker. You also have a dishwasher and washing machine.

The kitchen leads into a lounge/diner with both a dining table and chairs for four and comfortable seating to relax. There is a TV with dvd for the guests to use should they wish. There are patio doors to the private, rear patio area with Webber gas BBQ - great for al fresco dining and to catch the evening sun.

The lounge leads into a small internal hall. The two bedrooms, shower

The lounge leads into a small internal hall. The two bedrooms, shower room and separate toilet are off this hallway.

The first bedroom is a king with a door to the rear patio area. It has storage for clothes - a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The second bedroom has twin beds with similar clothes storage to the double. This makes the gite suitable for either two couples or a family.

The shower room has not only a shower, but wash basin and bidet. The toilet is separate to the shower room.

Le Poulallier shares a 10 m by 5 m swimming pool. For safety, the pool is fenced off from the sun bathing patio. There is over 2 hectares of gardens and fields to explore and for those who like to play games we have a boules pitch, badminton net, giant chess set and football (soccer) net. We even have a small fishing lake.

Razac-d'Eymet

The Dordogne valley is famous for its temperate climate, fantastic food, beautiful scenery and extremely drinkable wine!! It has been loved by British tourists and holiday makers for nearly a century.

There is so much to do here, you will not have enough time to do it all. Historical sites range from pre-histioric sites to beautiful chateaux via the Romans who planted the first vines in the area and the 100 years war between the French and the English.

To see the countryside from a different angle, try canoeing down the Dordogne river, stopping off for a picnic lunch on a deserted river island or beach.

Golf, horse riding, go cart racing or aerial walk ways through the trees are only a few of the many activities you can try. Your hosts will give you all the information you will need to fill your holiday to the brim.
For those with young families, there is a water park, farm visits, aquariums etc all within easy distances.

For guest wanting some finer form of relaxation, you can just laze by our fenced pool and enjoy the peace and quiet. We are in a farming area so there may be some harvesting noise but that is how you can buy great local produce to eat!

The list of restaurants and vineyards to visit is endless. Fantastic food and drink at reasonable prices. Anything from freshly cooked pizzas and Chinese to Foie Gras and truffles.

Through out the year, there is a morning market with in easy driving distance every day - yes including Sundays. In the summer there are evening markets as well. These range from gourmet food markets where you buy ready cooked food to eat washed down with the local wine to markets to buy souvenirs of the area and gifts to take home (as well as food and wine). One stall may have Moules Frites and the next one selling crepes.

In the spring there are Hunter's meals - 7 courses plus wine for under 20 euros. You take your own silver wear (cutlery) and plates so less washing up for the organizers! It is mainly meat based and there are no vegetarian options!

As well as the great French markets there are Vide Greniers (Attic Sales), Brocantes for antiques and Craft markets.

Eymet is the nearest town to our village and is about 4 kms away. It was built in the late 13th century as a new town and is known as a Bastide. This means it is built on a grid pattern around a central square and was built to promote commerce. It has restaurants, shops and bars. The morning market on Thursday and the evening market in main season is on a Tuesday. The Oyster and white wine festival in August (Food and wine stalls in the square) and let's not forget July 14th (Bastille Day) celebrations.

This area has many old villages and bastides and some are on the top 100 beautiful villages of France list.

The town of Bergerac ia about 20 kms. it has a market on Wednesday & Saturday and a fish market on Friday. The Old town hash wine & tobacco museums, restaurants & shops. Stroll through this area in the evening during the summer and listen to the vibrant music in the bars before sitting down to eat in a great restaurant. Take a river trip on a converted wine barges or try Go Kart racing, 10 pin bowling and the water park.

Wine tasting - everywhere you look, there is free wine tasting available. Don't be afraid - just go in, try some wine and if you feel like it, buy some! If you don't like it, then go to another chateau and try some more. This area is famous for Pechemant and Monbazillac wines.
