You can fish, play golf, go horseriding, enjoy adventure parks, visit museums or ........ just relax by the pool or on the terrace with a good book. It really is a get-away-from-it-all holiday cottage. You may see a car in the distance, but you'll rarely hear it.

Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

The Tarn is a beautiful laid back hardly known department of France. Rabastens is 30 minutes drive from Albi, the departmental capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site with it's impressive fortified cathredral St Cecile and Museum of Toulouse Lautrec. Giroussens is 15 minutes away and was an important Gallo-Romain pottery centre. There is a museum, exhibition space and saleroom. Every April there is a large potters market. Rabastens itself has a rich history dating back to Roman times. It is on the route of the pilgrims of St Jaques de Compostele and has a church which is one of the finest examples of Gothisc meridionalism. The area is also noted for its bastide villages with covered arcades, the pink garlic of Lautrec and pidgeoniers.

Rabastens

The area around Rabastens is called Little Tuscany because of the abundance of vineyards, gently rolling hills and cedar and palm trees. The vineyards of the Gaillac AOC region date back over 1,000 years. The local wine growers are proud of their heritage and welcome visitors to their caves and offer free visits and tastings. There is a sign posted Wine Route.

A visit to Albi, the departmental town of the Tarn (81) designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010 is a must for the Cathedral of Ste Cécile. This fortified Church dates from the 13th century and was under construction for 200 years. It is built in the local brick and has the distinction in France of being the only Cathedral to have its Rood Screen and Choir intact. The Toulouse Lautrec museum housing the world's largest collection of the artists works is next to the Cathedral in a fortified Bishops Palace. There are historic bridges, beutiful parks, river walks and cruises as well as a medieval quarter full of restaurants and shops. There is also a 1* Michelin restaurant L'Esprit du Vin with the chef David Enjalran.

Toulouse, the departmental capital of the Haute-Garonne (31) is called the "pink city" because of the colour of its brick buildings in the afternoon sun. It is only 30 minutes by car and there are many fine muséums, a pedestrianised shopping area and cafés and restaurants in all the squares. The Place Capitol is a must for people watching. For young and old alike there is the City d'Espace which proudly shows off the French Aerospace industry which is based in Toulouse.

Cordes-sur-Ciel is a perfectly preserved hilltop village which was voted France's favourite village by the viewers of TF2 in 2014. There are spectacular views of the countryside, many artisinal shops, restaurants and cafés. There is also a Museum of Sugar and Chocholate Craft by one of the most famous exponents in France - Yves Thuriers.

For the sporty there are water parks, climbing walls, Accrobranche, golf, horse-riding and fishing all within 30 minutes.
