COTTAGE DESCRIPTION

LA CHAUMIERE - 4 bedrooms (sleeps from 2 to 9)

This cottage is the ideal choice for people who find managing stairs difficult, as it offers ground floor bedroom / facilities.

The cottage is spacious, light and airy, tastefully furnished with matching Ducal pine furniture throughout, offering 'home from home' comfort.

A well-equipped modern kitchen (with breakfast bar & stools) sits at one end of an 'open plan' kitchen / dining room. The dining area has a table and chairs to comfortably seat 8 adults. (An additional table and chairs are available for larger groups renting both cottages together enabling everyone to dine together - up to 15)

A lovely stone archway leads through to a large lounge with a high pitched roof - showing exposed wooden beams, from which suspends a wrought iron chandelier light. There is a granite stone fireplace (with wood burning stove) and a tall white-washed chimney breast. Quaint high and low level windows, with stonework surrounds, afford the room plenty of light, keeping it light and bright.

The lounge provides a super space for all the family to relax in together, on comfy sofas and armchairs - with the added benefit of plenty of space for the children to play in on a wet day!

For entertainment there is a large flat screen TV (English & French channels available) plus DVD player (with free access to our extensive DVD library of 700+ titles); a HiFi stereo system (with selection of CDs); iPad docking station; selection of board games (all the usual favorites), puzzles and jigsaws. Plus a library of 200+ books (all genre including many children's authors)

At the far end of the cottage, leading away from the kitchen is a Utility Room (with washing machine, iron & ironing board, cleaning materials and products, patio cushions etc.), a separate toilet (with wash basin) and a ground floor Master king-sized bedroom with en-suite shower facilities.

Oak stairs (with banister and enclosed foot treads) lead up to the upper floor landing from the dining room.

Accessed off the upstairs landing, are three independent bedrooms and a family bathroom:

The 2nd master king-sized bedroom and two twin bedrooms (each with 2 single beds). All the bedrooms are spacious and indeed one of the twin bedrooms can accommodate a 3rd single bed if required (plus we also have two cots available.)

The upstairs bedrooms share a central family bathroom (with shower, wash basin & toilet)

In total the cottage has 4 spacious bedrooms (2 doubles and 2 twins), sleeping 8/9 comfortably + 2 cots.

Outside, the cottage has its own private terrace area with patio furniture.

The extensive grounds provide a safe haven for children to play and run off steam. “Stunning property in a beautiful location with owners who always go the extra mile!”

What a fantastic week we had! From the moment we arrived, we were treated like long lost friends! The cottage just blew us away (and we knew it was going to be special from the website). All the little extras, like the welcome food hamper, the wine and Easter eggs for the children, along with all the baby bits (highchair/changing mat/baby bath/pushchair/stair gates etc) were exceptional bonuses. We had also ordered a welcome meal (booked via the hosts), and Tricia had laid the table beautifully ready for this, with fresh flowers. We were very moved. The cottage itself is huge, very spacious rooms and you want for nothing right down to washing-up liquid/tin foil/washing powder etc etc. Everywhere is spotless and there are so many interesting things to look at. Our favourite room was the lounge, with the tall ceiling and wood burner which was very welcome this week! All the bedding was lovely and the towels were really great quality too. Our children loved the pool, the outdoor playground equipment, the indoor and outdoor games and the space! The location was ideal, with beautiful beaches within a 30 minute drive and lots of other interesting places (Carnac, Vannes, Auray etc). There was supermarkets/shops close by too. Neil and Tricia cannot do enough for you, although they are never intrusive, just always there with a smile when you need them. We made good use of their extensive dvd collection too. We are already planning our return next year! Loved every minute!

“First Class”

A wonderful quiet location. The hosts Tricia & Neil who are on site couldn't do enough for us.....recommending and booking restaurants, arranging Birthday cakes from the local patisserie, in-house catering..... the list goes on. The accomodation couldn't be faulted. Everything you could possibly want was provided for including relaxing beauty treatments with Tricia. We stayed in La Chaumiere -We were five adults, a five year old and a baby. The accomodation was very spacious clean and comfortable and the additional baby items saved us having to carry it all with us....fantastic! 5* I would recommend without hesitation.

“The Perfect Gite - You'll Not Want To Leave!”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2011

Brittany Thatched Cottages have the nicest gites I've seen. They are beautiful, extremely clean, well equipped with every thing you could possibly want, comfortable, set in beautiful grounds and run by Neil and Tricia - the nicest and most helpful owners. We hope to return again next year. I would strongly recommend this to anyone.

“A beautifully restored farmhouse with fab pool and great hosts.”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2011

La Chaumiere is a superbly presented French farmhouse in a very picturesque setting. Very spacious rooms with high quality fittings (kitchen, bathrooms). All your needs have been thought of by your excellent hosts, Tricia and Neil, who are always on hand unobtrusively to answer queries large and small and to recommend sight-seeing, markets and restaurants - nothing is too much trouble. The pool is fantastic - salt water so no nasty chlorine eyes! And the cover makes it possible to swim in all weathers. The area has so much to do - beautiful beaches cater for surfers and swimmers alike, medieval towns such as Auray and Vannes are well worth a visit. There are lots of info books at the house to help plan your stay and about 700 DVDs to get through! The welcome pack is the best I have ever had and there is also an excellent catering service available which we used for our first meal - delicious home-cooked food and very good value as it actually lasted us for almost 2 meals. Great holiday - love to return.

“La Chaumiere is a home from home where both parents and children will enjoy a stress free holiday.”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2011

We highly recommend a stay in La Chaumiere. The warm hospitality, beautiful surroundings, spectacular heated pool and gorgeous, spotlessly clean and extremely well-equipped gite (including full welcome hamper and extensive children's equipment and toys) make this holiday an ideal choice for all the family. Our children immediately felt at home and spent most of the time playing outside in the pool or with the endless toys and activities situated in the beautiful gardens surrounding our gite. The surrounding villages and towns were just beautiful and we spent many pleasant afternoons exploring and tasting local fare such as the the speciality 'crepes'. Neil and Tricia make you feel so welcome and are on hand to give advice and recommendations which proved invaluable as this was our first visit to Brittany. The weather was a little unpredictble but the pool cover allows the children to still enjoy the fabulous pool even when the sun didn't cooperate! A truly relaxing, enjoyable and wonderful way to holiday with family and friends!

“We will be back, yet again!”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2011

This was a return trip staying at La Chaumiere and it was as beautiful as I remember last year. The cottage is spotless and so well equipped. The gardens are beautiful and the pool is fantastic with it's retractable roof, which was most welcome on the chillier mornings when my 4 yr old wanted an early swim. The games cupboard in the garden is a great find for any child and my 4 yr old certainly did his fair share of raiding, and the table tennis got some use by the big kids too. Large supermarkets and restaurants are just a short drive away and there is a creperie within walking distance of the cottage. Tricia and Neil are such wonderful hosts and they are certainly one of many reasons why we will return again.

“Gorgeous house, gorgeous pool, gorgeous weather, gorgeous holiday”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2011

A truly wonderful, relaxing holiday home with everything you could wish for and more. The pool was a real hit with the children (4 girls, 3 - 11 years) and adults alike. Very large gardens with a childrens play area and picnic tables dotted all around. Found we didn't need to go out much as we had everything we needed at the cottage including lots of outdoor games. The weather was amazing and we all came back glowing. Can't wait to go again.

“a perfect family holiday in Brittany”

Reviewed 8 Jun 2011

Our friendly hosts Neil and Tricia Young equip their beautiful cottages to an exceptionally high standard, with everything our family of 6 adults and 3 small children needed, including cots, baby equipment, etc. The pretty grounds were safe for the children, with ample play equipment and toys. The pool was very warm, and had a sliding cover, so it could be used whatever the weather, and had top level perimeter screening. The starter food hamper was very useful, and there were loads of brochures for local attractions. We particulaly liked Josselin, various markets, and the medieval village of Poul Fetan. the local 9 hole "Golf de Rimaison" course was great - you could go round all day for €26 !!

“Fabulous - I don't know of better”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2011

This is a fabulous place to stay and is a home from home. We especially valued the great welcome basket and thoughtful things like the card and gift for my Mum (it was her birthday) and easter eggs for the children. The furnishings and equipment in the gite are top class and the grounds were enjoyed by all of us (especially the pool by the children). Lots to do in the surrounding area as well. Owners are very welcoming and friendly - they helped us out a great deal when our car broke down on Sunday in a sleepy French town! They also recommend local places to eat and things to do and are qualified therapists (relaxing massages to enjoy as well). Cannot recommend highly enough for a wonderful family holiday. We are returning next year.
