The Algarve region
About the Central Algarve
The heart of the Algarve, the Central Algarve is a perfect holiday destination and a Mecca for those seeking sun, sand and sea. It provides something for everyone and every effort is made to keep holidaymakers entertained. There are attractions throughout the region – with the larger fun parks and theme parks (eg “Zoomarine,Slide and Splash) generally sited close to the main arterial roads (A22 and N125). The region offers a vast choice of sporting facilities including water sports, tennis, horse riding, yachting and, of course, some of the best European golf courses. The Central Algarve’s coastline is characterised by reddish/brown sandstone cliffs that lead down to long beaches of golden sand and rocky outcrops. The vast choice of beautiful beaches and coves means that beach-goers can find a private and peaceful place to relax even in the height of the summer season. Inland, north of the arterial roads, tiny farming villages and hamlets are scattered in the peaceful rolling countryside. The Algarve has an excellent and enviable climate – reputed to be one of the best and healthiest in Europe – so it is no surprise that this is one of Europe’s best-loved destinations.

"Great Villa, Fab location"
Loved staying here, been to the resort before, but this was one of the nicest villas we have stayed at there. The villa is spacious and very clean, there is plenty of crockery and cooking facilities. It is right by the pool which has comfy sun loungers and a great pool bar. Vilar Do Golf is a fantastic location in the Algarve, with easy drive to the beach and the local shops. Would definitely stay here again

"A wonderful holiday in a top notch resort with superior accomodation."
This was our first family holiday in Portugal and we could not have been more pleased. Upon turning the key in the villa we knew we were going to have a lovely time. The villa was spacious, comfortable and well decorated and spotlessly clean. The resort was top class and the pool area was dotted with comfortable recliners most enjoying their own table and parasol for shade. It was well supervised with a minimum of two lifeguards at all times who we found to be friendly and polite. Villar de Golf was well laid out and privacy was maximised with the clever use of hedges and trees. The weather was beautiful and it was a lovely dry heat. When you wanted to cool down a click of the switch was all that was needed to turn on the air conditioning. We followed the guidelines and turned it on for an hour before bedtime which was enough to ensure a good nights sleep. The area was beautiful and there was a fine selection of restaurants and prices to suit everyone's budget. There was activities for adults and kids during the day if you wanted to participate. At night it was quiet and calm and our kids, one a teenager and another a pre-teen enjoyed playing pool and meeting up with kids they met so mum and dad got some peace too! The Bobby Jones restaurant on site had a lovely dining and bar area. Prices for food at the bar area were very reasonable and I would recommend the club sandwich. With both and indoor and outdoor pool there was no excuse not to enjoy a dip. A thirty min trip to the airport was also a great benefit and there was no long drive to consider in one's plans. The beach was a five min drive away and it was clean and well supervised. So all said we could not have been happier with our first family holiday in Portugal a beautiful country with lots to do for those who want an active holiday and for those that want to simply relax and recharge you won't be disappointed.

"Great House, lovely location, perfect for a relaxing family break."
We rented the house in March with my 2yr old and my parents and had a great week away. The location is ideal if you don't want a long journey from Faro airport. Following the directions provided with found Vilar do Golf easily, even at driving at night and coping with driving on the wrong side of the road! The only slight difficulty we had was finding the house itself, as it was a bit hard to get our bearings at night and see the house number! When we arrived, the travel cot I had requested from John was assembled and made up with blankets and sheets and also with a mattress, which is not provided in a lot of hotels we have stayed in Ireland. The house itself is very comfortable and well equipped. We cooked quite a few times in the house and had everything that we needed to prepare meals. The location of the house is ideal if you have young children, as you are a very short walk across the gardens from the pool area. We used the indoor pool as a it a bit chilly in March to be swimming outside but they do have a covered children’s pool and play area which would be great in the height of summer. There is also an indoor children’s playroom if the weather isn't great. All the staff in the resort were lovely and very helpful. The guys at reception were great for tips on where to shop, eat etc. and the staff at the pool were very friendly also. We ate in the Bobby Jones grill a few evenings and the staff there were great with my son and had him speaking Portuguese by the end of the week! We ate off the bar menu which was a good but limited menu. The kid’s menu was great value and very generous portions! We hired a car and so went into Almancil to the supermarket to stock up on some essentials for the week. I think it was called Pingo Doce and it had everything you could need, including a very nice wine selection! The rest of the week we just used the shop at reception and if you didn't want to hire a car you could probably survive for the week. Things were a bit more expensive naturally but nothing extortionate. The resort has lovely scenery down at the lakeside and at the beach and we didn't end up travelling out of the estate much during the week, apart from a trip to Villamoura and the gypsy market. We drove there as we had the car but there were bus excursions from reception. There is a lovely seafood restaurant down by the lake called Caso do Lago. The seafood is delicious, although maybe a bit pricey but no more than Dublin prices and well worth it. The setting is beautiful looking over the lake, especially if the weather is nice. We had to take my son to the doctor during our stay and used the medical centre on site. Luckily once he got an antibiotic has was fine and able to enjoy the rest of the holiday. It was great to have the reassurance of having a doctor on site. All in all, we had a very relaxing week away, even with a trip to the doctor!! I would definitely recommend the house to friends and would hope to return for another holiday in the future.
