Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

The Languedoc, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is one of the sunniest regions in Europe, with over 200 days of sunshine a year. With its Cathar castles, spectacular scenery, pretty villages and vineyards, it offers something for everyone. The Mediterranean coast is an easy drive away, or accessible by public transport.

There are many events and activities in the summer, including a weekly night market with street food and music, guitar and jazz festivals, and the International Folk Festival at the end of July - a week long celebration of music from around the world. The Tour de France passes nearby in most years. In winter, the nearest ski resort is 30 minutes' drive away, and the big resorts of the High Pyrenees are about 1 1/2 hours' drive.

“In need of a small tweak, otherwise perfect”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2016

Absolutely perfect and suited our needs perfectly, hosts were very friendly and educated in the area and openly offered advise. Although relatively small, the room was adequate for two adults, it had a great bed, and a lovely welcome pack, our only flaw was there was no fans nor tv/radio/hifi, however the wifi was great enabling us to use our tablet. The room had all the essentials and was situated perfectly for both travelling and town hopping. Our host was magnificent with any issue we had and was more than pleased to help, we would recommend this room as the perfect platform to explore the wonders of Aude, and would definately rent again , Ali & Jacqui , July 2016

“Conveniently located and comfortable accommodation for 1 or 2 people.”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2014

Before arriving I had swapped emails with the owners and was given a telephone number to ring about 30 minutes before my likely arrival time. When I arrived (by car) the owner was there to greet me and showed me around (this did not take long as it is only two rooms). He also showed me how the settee converted into a double bed, and where the bed linen was cleverly hidden in the base of the settee. At first sight I thought the settee would be unlikely to convert into a comfortable bed but I was pleasantly surprised, and slept very well on it The accommodation consisted of one room with the bed settee, a table with two chairs, a fridge, a microware and a cupboard with plates, cups cutlery etc. On the top of the cupboard was a kettle, with tea & coffee and powdered milk plus a bottle of local rose wine. I would like there to have been a small conventional oven and a hob in addition to the microwave oven, and I understand that the owner is going to install enhanced cooking facilities. In the sheltered space in front of the house there was a large gas powered bar-b-q and a garden table and chairs. The free Wi-Fi worked very well on my laptop. In an adjoining room via a sliding door there was a bathroom with a WC and washbasin, and off this a large excellent shower. There was an adequate supply of towels, toiletries, tea cloths etc. If you are arriving in Quillan by train the bedsit is in an ideal location, the train stopping about 100m away. The line stops at Quillan so train noise was not a problem, and they did not run at night. Also the road past the bedsit was very quiet and I parked my car immediately outside the bedsit. The main part of the town with restaurants shops etc. starts about 200m away. On Sunday there was an excellent market in the square outside the station (120m away). The purpose of my 8 days in Quillan was to look around the area with the aim of buying a house. The bedsit was in an ideal position for this as all the estate agents were a short walk away. One day when I did not have any houses to see I took the train to Carcassonne (just over 1 hours journey), for the amazingly low cost of 1 euro each way! My house buying was successful and I hope to use the bedsit when I come back to sign the legal papers.
