Description

This charming country home, sleeping up to 8 people, has everything you will require for a comfortable, relaxing, quiet holiday. The kitchen is very well equipped for self-catering and contains plenty of equipment for serious cooks and eaters. After a meal of splendid local produce (especially fish, seafood and wonderful vegetables) you can let the dishwasher do the work while you relax in the spacious sitting-room. With two sofas, armchairs, games, a small hi-fi and a wood-burning stove, you can be equally comfortable in summer or winter.

Outside, the back garden has a wonderful sea view to enjoy while barbecuing and eating al fresco. The little front courtyard is an evening sun-trap perfect for pre-dinner drinks after your stroll back from the beach.

Each double bedroom and bathroom is approached by a separate staircase - ideal, perhaps, for two couples. Next to one of the double rooms is a twin room containing bunk beds, and the sitting room has a comfortable double

Location description from owner

The Basse-Normandie region

The department of La Manche consists mostly of the Cotentin Peninsula, which juts out into the English Channel and enjoys a mild maritime climate. The house is just outside a small village near the market town of Quettehou and the picturesque fishing and pleasure port of St Vaast (famous for its oysters and other seafood). There are beaches about five minutes away on foot. Further afield are the World Heritage sites of Bayeux and Mont Saint Michel - both easily accessible for a day tour.

Being a coastal region, this part of Normandy offers a huge variety of fresh fish and seafood. The local cuisine combines this with locally grown vegetables; dairy produce (especially fresh cream and cheese); apples, cider and Calvados; and excellent meat. The markets are well worth a visit and if you are a keen cook you will find plenty to inspire you.

Quettehou

Morsalines lies within the Parc naturel regional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin. There is an abundance of wildlife in the marshes and by the sea. The beaches provide easy walks with hills behind for more vigorous walking and cycling. Bicycles can be hired locally.

There are supermarkets and shops at Quettehou (five minutes away) and St Vaast (ten minutes away). And every day of the week there are excellent produce markets within half an hour's drive.

The D-Day landing beaches are a short distance away.

“Thanks for another brilliant week at Morsalines!”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2014

We first stayed at this property exactly ten years ago. There’s always a risk that returning to a holiday destination after a long gap will not live up to the memories; absolutely not so in this case! The cottage is situated in a quiet rural position a short walk from the sea. It is peaceful, comfortable and spacious, and is one of the top two or three holiday properties I have stayed in over the last couple of decades. There is plenty of living space spread over the two downstairs rooms, and having the two separate bedroom suites, each with its own bathroom, is ideal for a young family and another couple (eg grandparents), allowing some separation when needed. The back garden, although high on a hillside, is a perfect sun-trap, and completely enclosed and secure for small children to play in unsupervised. The property is ideally situated in a region rich with historical connections and natural amenities: fine beaches, attractive villages and towns (eg Barfleur, Bayeux), and the extensive D-Day sites and museums along the coast. Good, traditional Normandy fare is widely available in restaurants and markets locally.
