Very Good

“Well situated comfortable house with great pool”

The photographs don't really do justice to this house which was spacious, clean, well appointed and provided an excellent base for a fortnight's stay in Antibes. The house is at one end of a block of three, and part of a securely gated development of 11 houses, situated in a quiet, affluent residential area (no noisy late-night discos). Oddly none of the photos show the front of the house itself, the ones pictured being nearby houses in the same development. Many of the other residents were local people going about their daily business meaning that we often had the pool to ourselves, even in August. The pool is a good size (about 15m x 7m) and about 2.5m deep at the deep end. The house has 3 good size bedrooms, thankfully each of which had an air-conditioning unit ! One of the rooms however was a bit short of storage space - the wardrobe which could have been made available to visitors was marked 'private' and kept locked. Access to the upper floors is by means of a narrow spiral staircase, with no handrail, which may prove awkward for some. The kitchen was clean and well-equipped and the lounge/dining area very spacious and comfortable. There is a toilet on the ground floor, toilet and shower room on the first floor, and an en-suite shower room on the top floor (strangely this had no electric light). All the toilet/bathing facilities were clean and well maintained. The back garden was very pleasant to sit in - it is east-facing so it gets the sun in the morning and early afternoon. The house is about 300m from the Plage de la Salis, which is fantastic, though obviously busy in August. The beach is entirely public meaning that there are no private beach concessions taking up all the space (unlike the nearby Plage de la Garoupe). It also has several excellent snack bars serving reasonably priced sandwiches, drinks, ice-creams and even salads. Other good beaches are not too far away - the Plage des Ondes on the western side of the Cap, and several interesting rocky beaches at the southern end of the Cap a short journey away on the no. 2 bus. Cap d'Antibes is a lovely area to walk around (when it's not too hot !), very leafy and exclusive. The lighthouse and chapel at the top of the hill, the Jardins Thuret and Villa Eilenroc are all worth a visit. There are several good restaurants on the road behind the Plage de la Salis, all doing pizza/pasta dishes with a few French meat/fish main courses thrown in. There is loads more choice available in Antibes old town, including a curry house, and also in Juan les Pins. In general the restaurants weren't as pricey as I'd feared for this part of the world. Food shops were a bit of a walk - there is a small grocer's and bakery at the northern end of the boulevard du Cap about 10 minutes away, and a good-sized Casino supermarket in the Palais des Congres in Juan les Pins 15 minutes' walk away (conveniently en-route to Juan les Pins train station). The train service along the coast is frequent but not particularly fast - it takes an hour to get to Monaco from Juan les Pins, with the train stopping every few minutes. The company who manage this property, Rivieran Relax, were very efficient throughout the whole booking process and their agent arrived promptly at both the start and end of the holiday. There was no problem getting our 400 Euro security deposit back and they happily organised a taxi to take us back to the airport. There is a mandatory cleaning charge of 95 Euro (lots of sand to sweep up !) and an optional charge of 20 Euro/person for hire of bed linen and towels. On the whole we thought that this house was very good value for money, considering the nature of the locality and the fact that this is a house rather than an apartment in a large block. In summary we had a very enjoyable holiday and would unhesitatingly recommend this property to others.
